Computer help?
« on: July 18, 2007, 12:05:34 PM »
So I decided to get into the 20th century and I bought one of those modern flat screen monitors, you know the thin ones... this one has built-in speakers because my cheap assss wouldn't pay the $10 for external speakers, it also is a wide screen monitor - I'm assuming for movies  ???  :P , and there's two problems that I have run into...  :-[

One is that this thing is a wide screen and when I look at a picture of a hot piece of assss she always turns out to be about 400 pounds (wide screen).  :(  Big butts are cool and all but DAMN!

The other problem is the speaker hook-up... My computer has this 6" pair of cables coming out of the back that does a u-turn and plugs into the back also. There are two 1/8" mini-plugs on that cable, one is pink and the other is green. The cable that came with the monitor is also a 1/8" mini-plug with a green end. There are three 1/8" mimi-plug recepticles on the back of the computer in all: pink, blue, and green. WTF?  ???

Help me out before I slip and ditch the whole damn thing and set up my Atari.  :-\   :'(  B-17 Bomber, "bombs away!"...

All of the 1/8 mini plugs on mine all have a little icon next to them to tell you whats what.

if it is plugged in and there is still no sound try turning up the volume in the computer. Just go to the control pannel and click on sounds and audio devices.

So you think I should just start unplugging and re-plugging things in and see which set-up works?  ??? LMFAO  ;D  The problem I'm having is that there is already a plug plugged into the green plug and since there's only one green female and two green males... hmmm... sounds like a party I don't want to be in!  :D

The sound problem has been fixed (I think). I disconnected the green plug that was connected to the puter and plugged in the speaker jack and I have sound now. I'm positive something no longer works though...

I can't figure out the wide screen thing, everything looks fat and stupid.   :-\

Whew, that wasn't good...  :D resolution cranked up made it waaayyyyy worse (same effect but worse), so I decreased resolution and got icons about as big as my digital camera  :o , I figure at this point I'll go to the store where I got it and go from there.

Thanks for your help!

Beerjet, you probably still have your computer set for a 4:3 screen vs. widescreen.

Try this,
Minimize your windows, right click on your desktop, select properties, select the settings tab, on the top there will probably be a choice of screen types (panamorphic/anamorphic ie. widescreen/normal), select the widescreen choice in the big box.  If this doesn't work, you may need to go to your display setting which is right below the box and check the wide setting from there.  There may also be a disk which was provided with the monitor -this may allow you to maximize all the setting and such.

hopefully that will sort out the bugs...

I went over there and the paper work that came with the monitor says the resolution has to 1440x900 and his computer won't go that high.

My computer does go that high in the resolution just not the right ratio. I went to the store where I bought it and they tyold me that it won't do what I'm trying to get it to do (it's a cheapie). It's strictly a wide screen monitor (only). So tomorrow I'm taking it back to the store, trading this 17" widescreen for a 19" regular screen, paying 10 bucks more, and getting a two year longer warranty.

Thanks for all your efforts guys.  ;)
