got to love our pilots....
« on: February 17, 2009, 09:58:51 AM »
I love this!.. I thought some of you would especially appreciate this one!

In addition to communicating with the localAir Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in thePersian GulfAOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace.

This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination.

A friend of mine just flew with a guy who overheard this conversation on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying fromEurope to Dubai. It's too good not to pass along

The conversation went like this...

Iranian Air Defense Radar:'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'

Aircraft:'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Air Defense Radar:'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft:'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'emup, I'll wait!'

Air Defense Radar:(no response ... total silence)

Today I am working between Maricopa and Taft in the middle of BFE. Just had two fighter jets buzz my head by maybe 100 ft. doing what they do very well. Haulin ass, looking cool and sounding cooler. Nice to know we still have someone to count on.

Used to have a bumper sticker that said "Jet Noise, The Sound of Freedom" I'd love to find one again for my truck. A buddy of mine's brother is AF fighter pilot and during the first gulf war they shot down a sh#t load of Iraqi planes in the first few minutes of the war to the point where the Iraqis quit sending them up so the allied pilots would get on the radio and talk sh#t to the Iraqis and try to taunt them up. No luck lol.  Definitely gotta love our pilots!!!
