Title: BBC CRANK
Post by: Bull20 on November 19, 2008, 10:24:53 AM
I am on a hunt for a forged crankshaft for a 454. The Chevy P/N is 3963524 (5140 steel) or an after market one of the same style.

The 5140 crank is a more brittle matterial than say the 4340 . Why that one inperticular ?

That is the best one that Chevy makes, I would prefer the 4340 in an after market carnk. All the good ones are in that bracket.

Your right , it is the strongest , but I would still look for a 4340 .

Yes indeed; either/or works for me. The motor just seems to work better with one of these wiggly things in it.

It is more of a re-build than a build - Lake Ming decided it wanted to play spin the bearing. The motor is a 468 - 13 to 1, LS7 with solid lifters and rollers. The boat itself is an NJ, but it is CJ legal.

Thank you for asking,
