I have a ModVP type tunnel, and because wakeboard boats, it's constantly taking on water. My problem is that the outer sponsons fill up and I've got no way to empty them except with my kids squirt gun or pulling the plugs. I can't put a bilge pump in each sponson because the gas tanks go all the way to the transom and fill up all but about an inch of the sponson.
J-drains would work, but I don't like they stick open if a piece of debris gets in 'em, so that's off the table.
I was thinking of setting up kind a piece of tube hanging off the back of the boat just touching the water in hopes that it would create enough vacuum to suck the water out, but I have no idea if that would work.
a self priming pump with accomodations for a hose on the suction side would work, but I've got no idea where to start looking for those, as most are listed for specific applications, rather than listed by how they work.
any ideas? I have to pump it either out of the boat or just into the center keel, where I have a bilge pump. Also trying to keep it under a million dollars.

Cobalts use a diaphragm type bilge pump. That is how I would handle it, just need to get a suction hose into the water.

just trying to brainstorm (don't say anything I know :screwy:) but can u add a small electric fuel punp on a switch n route to the builge area. or would water destroy it? those small car pumps are like 3/4 inch ijs

That's cool...never seen them before. Does it have a nipple on the suction side or will I have to make something?
Edit: for $200 they can keep that fawking thing

There's a lot of mild steel in those, the water would kill it

They can be had for about $80, that just happen to be a name brand one. Didn't know you were going to cheap out on me..

Diesel pump would last longer then a regular fuel pump from napa and it's 10 bucks more. Just an idea.

I have used the rubber duckbills with pretty good success, the ones with the check ball suck butt... :thumbdown: :thumbdown:

Pat, just steal one of those ballast pumps out of a rollbar boat, they certainly don't need it. If you take a long hose you could pump the water
out of your boat into whoever is being the dick for the day. Ha ha ha !!!

enough problems already .

Excellent idea. I've got nitrogen bottle and an air drill with hole saw to use underwater on a certain big river asshole's wakeboard boat...with any luck, the ballast pump will come out...if not, I'm sure to get parts for salvage prices the next day when the boats gets recovered

forget all that stuff and just toss in a j-drain on each side like the flatbottom boats use. everytime u get on plane the water goes out the back, water tries to get back in, flap shuts and seals.

We used to use them in the outer sponsons on the other Daytona Pat,
never had a problem.

I was checking out my blue-point vacuum that runs on compressed air.
I'm gonna try a v-drive style water pickup and make a Venturi pump, whenever the boat is on plane, it should suck water outta the sides. With my luck, I'll probably hook it up backwards and sink the POS

It's all about velocity. I have the same vacuum and I made some improvements on the one I built. Uses C02, can move about 10 gallons of water with it before the nozzle freezes up. 8)

Stupid compressor still cycles every 10 seconds, but witch's tits ain't got shit on the temp inside the cab.
I'll play with some different entry nozzles to see what works.

I used 3/8" copper tube inside a 3/4" copper tube with the last one, I use a simple garden hose bib adapter on it and it flushes pans out like nobody's business..
The one I use the C02 on only has an 1/8" pipe inside a 3/4" pipe... It moves a lot of water regulated at 120PSI.
Should work fine.

I don't have any pictures, but I will get you some tomorrow.. Right now I am finishing a rocks Margarita while rockin' some sweat pants and way too full of fish tacos to really GAF. LOL
