Hey guys, eastern Pennsylvania boy here who just picked up his first jet boat. Me and my buddy been looking for some jet boats to run in our local lake this up coming summer since last summer and I finally pulled the trigger on one this weekend. A 1982 Glastron CVX-20 I picked up 6 hours away in New York. While neither one of us where dead set on any particular kind of boat but they had to be turn key and closed bows with berkeley jets. Me in particular was looking for something with a closed stern as well as our lake has a horsepower limit and I figured the chances of me getting in trouble would be a lot less if I didn't have an exposed engine but it wasn't a deal breaker for me if it was an open engine. Was just a piece of mine stipulation of mine. We both had a 5k budget. Shortly after we started looking we both realized one thing....the east coast was NOT the place to look to buy these boats. They just are not around out here on the east coast. They would pop of occasionally but it seamed like the only boats that came up for sale anywhere near us were either fresh restoration boats that were asking numbers over double our budgets or just complete basket case boats that were still asking close to our budget cap. I happened to come across a 79' CVX-20 for sale back in September with a gold paint scheme and I pretty much fell in love with the hull design of the CVX-20 right then and there, especially because it checked off the "Closed Stern" mark I was after, but the seller was asking $7500 and wouldn't budge. Out of my budget so I figured id let it sit a week then see if he was still firm on the $7500 and well it turns out he was because someone had came and bought it a few days after I got in contact with him. After that I continued my search but went particularly after the CVX-20, joining many Glastron and CVX specific groups in hopes my chances of finding one for sale would be greater in those groups than just a generic "Jet Boat" group. A few months went by and still no real luck on any jet boat period and I had learned something about the CVX-20's in particularly and that was that they DO NOT come up for sale ANYWHERE in the US and it was not just an east coast thing. At that point I told myself if I ever found one in my budget that checked all the check marks I needed that I wouldn't sleep on it and I'd go buy it as soon as the seller was available to sell it to me. That first CVX-20 I missed out on haunted me every day since I missed out on it. Fast forward to Wednesday night of last week and I got a notification for a post in one of my Glastron pages, didn't open it till about 20 minutes later and low and behold it was a CVX-20 for sale that was only 6 hours from me that was just inside of my budget and checked all the marks I needed, and as a plus it had the same gold paint scheme the first one I found did which I particularly wanted as it was my favorite factory paint scheme for those boats. Opened the post and found one comment on the post already and got nervous I had already missed out but was just someone who was saying how good of a deal it was so I messaged the seller immediately and offered to come pick it up the very next morning. We got to talking and decided we'd talk on the phone the next day to get more details and set up a time and place and all. Agreed to meet Sunday morning and so I roped my buddy into taking the trip with me to go pick it up. We headed out around 1 am and got there around 8am and it was even better looking in person then in pictures as I've never seen a CVX-20 in person before. Checked it over and it was everything I was expecting so we did the paper work and we started to head back home. We weren't even 30 minutes into our ride home and we stopped at a McDonalds for breakfast and some guy offered to buy it off me in the parking lot. Now we knew we were in a race against the weather going home as we were supposed to be getting hit with the beginning of the big Nor'easter right as we were scheduled to get back home but I guess the mountains were starting early cause it started snowing about an hour into our ride home and never stopped our whole ride home. We got all sorts of looks and thumbs up the whole ride home because towing a boat was the most ridiculous thing we could have been doing in the dead of winter and in the middle of a big snow storm but we got home just fine but the CVX was now COVERED in snow and slush and god knows what else the road kicked up. We tried to hit a local car wash to just clean it off a bit before we parked it but they were all closed for some reason so we only stopped at the local Home depot to pick up some lumber to build a frame in order to tarp it and keep the elements out of it. We finally got it in the driveway and built the frame to support the tarp in record time. Got it tarped and called it a day as we both were running on 4 hours of sleep and knew we were only going to get a few more hours in before we were gonna get called to go out and plow snow. Couldn't be more happy with my purchase. That's all I got for now. Can't wait to tear into it and get it out on the lake this year!

The ass end of those hulls are sexy! Love the swim stairs and the windshield. I had a similar situation chasing a unicorn for almost 5 years. For me it was a 185 model Cee Bee Avenger that wasn’t a basket case. There are several around locally here in Oregon but rarely go up for sale. I already had a get me by boat but the 1st chance I had to buy a nice one in my budget I jumped quickly felt very fortunate to get the chance and happy to keep it local. It’s also a closed stern/ windshield jet boat. Congrats on ur purchase and welcome to the site, there’s some excellent threads and knowledgeable folks on here.
