I use Progressive.  They asked very few questions   ;D
You might also check over at RDP, they have a couple people there that specialize in marine insurance.

Good luck with Progressive, sure they'll insure you, until you make a claim and the adjuster sees O/T headers, then it's all bets off.

The thing with Progressive is that they will write the policies all day long, then when you need them, to make a claim say, the adjuster will tell you point blank that the policy isn't worth the paper it's printed on, they will happily refund all of your premiums to date and deny your claim. Yes, this is legal, yes they do it. The insurance writers don't necessarily know all of the ins and outs of the policy, that's why they'll sell it to you, then when your claim is made, it's denied on the basis of fraudulent information provided. Trust me on this, if you have progressive, or any other insurance, CALL your agent, tell them EXACTLY what your boat is,type of headers, HP, top speed, DO NOT leave anything out or you will be in a world of shit when you need to make a claim.

I hope this is not a dumb question but when you guys insure a boat do you insure the boat against damage or is it liability in case of accident ? I have owned various runabout ski boat for the past 30 years and have never had insuance but now with the jet i want liability dont really care about anything else

Follow Skips advice.

"IF" you "Fully Disclose" (and its in writing) your boat (HP, Headers, Engine Cover, etc) and a company still writes you a policy they will have to pay a claim.

If you get a policy over the phone/online and the questions are not asked and you dont disclose they will do as Skip says.

Skip you are knocking Progressive pretty hard.  How many cases have you heard of them screwing people firsthand?   My insured boat is 100% stock, just the way the factory made it.  TT logs and engine cover.
They did ask me about top speed and I think I told them 50 but so far I haven't been able to go that fast  :banghead:     Should I worry?   My auto comp. doesn't do boats and Progressive was the first next place I tried.

GC- If you told them the truth, 100% then you're fine. It's just boats with high HP, OT headers etc that they will not pay a claim on. It happened to a good friend of mine 2 years ago with his flatty. He's still paying that shit off

If you're worried about it, call your agent, or use AAA, they'll cover your boat.

UPDATE:

I just got off the phone with a Progressive broker who last week assured me that I would have no issues with open engine and O/T headers. I asked her in no uncertain terms to VERIFY that the information she was giving me was 100% correct.  She got back to me today, after searching through all of the Progressive underwriting rules and regs, in the small print she found that they DO NOT insure open engines or O/T headers. She is now searching some other companies for me.

My advice, if you have Progressive, you better double, triple check your coverage. DJ this is your agent that I spoke to, you better call her.

Just got off the phone with Sara at Engle. She notified my broker and also confirmed I was not covered do to the headers. So hopefully I will be getting a check back for back pay to them. Skip thanks for the heads up. I should hear from Britteney or Sara tomorrow with some new providers.

That is why you do not need to worry.
Most companies have no problen when you have TT and the engine is covered.

Happy to help boys, I have no beef with Progressive, or any other insurance company, but I'd really hate to hear that somebody who thought they had coverage gets hosed when they actually try and use it.
I'm supposed to get a phone call tomorrow from a company that will insure open engine, O/T header, higher HP boats. I'll keep y'all posted.
