Title: Boat shopping
Post by: flytime on June 27, 2009, 10:27:53 AM
Instead of adding more to my problem thread I thought I would start another for possible new boat candidates. Who is going to be in Parker/Big River over 4th to check this thing out for me? Nick?????? ;)

Bob,

I built one of these Advantages for a customer once (I think in 1996), pretty nice boat acyually, fun to drive, the only thing I didn't like about it was the lack storage. Well built but the one we did was not rigged because he bought it as a hull and interior, we bought the trailer and put a Marine Power 454 and a Dominator in it, ran about 65 MPH with a little bit of tweaking and turned like it was on rails...

That is if this is called the 20.5 Open (I think it said "River Cruiser").  BTW, they carpet literally everything.

2nd owner, fresh pump, owner says immaculate condition. Nothing officially lined up yet. Tryng to get my neighbor to fly me to Parker next weekend to see it. Might drive out if all else fails.

Possible change of plans ::). The wife and I were loooking at the summer calendar and we only have a VERY small handfull of weekends that we could even use the boat  The first one not even being for at least 3 weeks. Between other vacations and family obligations the summer is going to slip by fast. So the big decision is this 1: Do I spend a bunch of money on a boat right now that I wont get to use that much? 2: Do I spend a little bit of money buying some POS that I have to pay insurance and storage for that I wont be sure if its going to run when I do have time to take it out? or 3: Bank the money and buy something in the off season unless I come across a smoking deal on a boat I cant live without. ??? I am going to take the day off boat shopping today and go flying instead with my neighbor. See you all when I get back on the ground ;)

I really think I may just wait until the off season to buy something really nice that hopefully I will get to enjoy more next year. The is no shortage of boats out there that's for sure. I did however have a good day flying around with the birds today. Ended up in some hell hole called New Cayuma. Went to the ONLY restaurant in town "The Burger Barn" and flew back up the coast. Really bitchen day out today. Here are some pics.

I didn't know you flew...I don't have my pilots license yet but fly my buddies Cessna 172 on occasion, rock on!

I dont have my pilots licence either. My neighbor just lets me cruise around when we are up there. I think his is a Cessna 210 Turbo. Its pretty quick. We were doing about 170 knots today.

Where's New Cayuma? (Looks like the middle of nowhere)

Boatwise, what exactly are you looking for? Or not looking for?
A specific builder? Ford , Chevy? Blue, red, " Fabulous Fuscia"? ;D

Dave.....good question on everything ??? Definitly in the middle of nowhere. Somewhere about 60  miles outside of Santa Maria. Ford or Chevy is fine with me. No Fuscia thats for sure. I just really think I need to put the boat thing on hold for a couple weeks. Dont really have much time the next few weeks to be out looking and wet testing anyways.
