Boat sliding back while towing
« on: July 31, 2018, 11:32:54 PM »
Does anybody else have have a problem with the boat sliding back a bit on the trailer while towing? When I load the boat on the trailer, I can have about 1/2" of bunk showing and the floater bar pin is pushed to the back of the bow eye.
By the time I get home, this last trip I noticed it at the first stop, the bunks are 1/2" under the boat and the pin is pushing forward on the bow eye.
I have tried to strap the transom down, over the pump, from ski hook mounted on the engine to the trailer. No matter what the boat seems to slide back.

Just wondering if this is normal with floater bar set ups.

I had issues like that, and with the bow of the boat bouncing. I was getting ready to get rid of the draw bar and mount a winch before selling it. I can't stand those set ups way too much movement

I tie strap the bow.  See if that helps.

I've thought about that. But the only place to strap it to is lower than the bow eye at the trailer handles on the tongue.
I was going to try it this last trip but forgot.

But with the strap going low like that, I would think if the bow bounces down it could give the strap a little slack allowing it to slip back. I was trying to figure out how to have the strap level with the bow eye like a winch set up.

ive lost a strap that way before...

only thing ive remotely had success with is the strap over the pump in the back. Also i loosen it as soon as im where i need to be, try not to leave the stress on it to long

gonna change up the trailer eventually

Hey Steve

Yeah I’ve tried that a few times. Over the pump and up to the ski tow. Still slid back.

I was mostly wondering how common it is.

i NEVER used to tie the back of my boat down...

coming home from some testing at elsinore, i got a little bit throttle happy (okay a lot bit) at a stop sign

Once the tires eventually hooked, the boat slid back about 3 feet, the bow went up and the floater bar flipped all the way over

That was the last time i did that   :screwy:
