Silly question, just was wondering who does,has or won't tow with the boat cover on during long trips? Just cleaned mine up and was thinking of putting mine on to parker. I would think it would create more drag so means shitty gas mileage.

I've never thought about the gas mileage I've always thought about it rubbing on my interior the tips of my seats and engine cover I don't want the marks from the cover. I have a really nice towable cover and did it once never again.

Yeah I thought about it rubbing on the gel and stuff. I was thinking more of road debris coming up hitting the boat. I haven't towed with it one so I figured I'd ask first.

We used to shrink wrap the race boat to keep the rain and snow out....Yeah, I know... :screwy:
Boat covers are really hard on a boat unless it is a custom towing cover with the cotton corners and vents to keep it taught.
A good quality towing cover custom made for your boat should cost in the neighborhood of just north of $1000.... :screwy:

I called Custom Canvas in Monclair last week about a cover for my boat, she quoted $1350 for there "race" cover (it comes with an inner liner that goes on before the cover and has heavy duty straps that attach to the trailer). Sounded bitchen but out of my price range.
The other cover they offer is there standard reinforced canvas cover for $675. This is what I'm going to replace my current cover with soon.

My tow cover is bad ass. I won't tow without it unless I'm going 20 min to puddlestone. Super snug fit and doesn't whip the gel. I do use carpet runner/protector on the windshields and fiberglass below them cause its cheap abd prevents any chaffing. I also use that on the front of my truck to prevent rock chip and having to scrub bugs off. Get home, peel off and clean, unscathed front end.
With the new upholstery I'm using some cheap white bath towels to put on tops if seat and anything touching the cover in motion to keep the new shit new.

The cover I have is a pretty nice canvas but I don't think it has cotton liners in the corners or edges.

Actually the cover should improve gas mileage slightly as it prevents air from pocketing inside the boat interior, however unless it is a super tight custom heavy material cover, as advised in the other posts, I would also advise against it. I have a custom snap cover for the cockpit on my Liberator, it makes a hugh difference when towing with/without, but this is a cuddy cabin style hull and deep, catches a lot of air. The full mooring cover for it is not used for towing, just when parked. I just towed a Bahner 1800 miles home, came with a real nice custom cover but did not use, would rather take my chances cleaning the boat a little than rubbing damage.

I never worry about seat bottoms or anything else that gets stowed flying out doin 75-80
