boat value!!
« on: February 11, 2007, 03:47:14 PM »
does anybody use the kelly blue book when buying a car? why don't they use their sister site www.nada.com when buying a boat. it tells what the boat is worth. its crazy that people are charging 10k more than its worth, just because people dont know about the site. pass it on so we all can afford a better boat.

NADA does not know who painted a boat, does not know custom engine builds, does not know anything but stock or factory. Just for instance I just rebuilt a hull and a Berkeley jet drive for a customer. The boat alone was worth maybe $4K he has spent about $4600 in rebuild and custom parts. Sorry but Boats and Trucks are real hard to price, and there is no real way to be fair to both parties.

I tried it with my boat and it does not give you the option to put all the extra goodies that I have done to my boat. I am sure my boat is worth a lot more than it is stating. If you are trying to sell a stock boat then it's good other than that it's a waste of time.

The three or four jet boats I looked for I could nod not find or they did not have that year listed. So it's obviously not that reliable for detirmining how much boats are worth.
I feel it's all about how much fun you can have it!!

You will never get out of it what you put into it. Whatever the market will allow is what it is worth. If nada shows your boat is worth $4000 and the market is selling for $7000, well most peolpe don't want to give things away for any less than they are worth.

I think the bottom line is you should do your own homework when buying a boat. I wouldnt rely on a website to tell me how much a boat is worth.

Shop around, ask questions, look at many sites and compair, get a feel for the market.

....and if someone has an asking price youre unhappy with, find another boat.

deviatedclothing: In another thread you mentioned you were looking for a Daytona. These are very saught after hulls and have a demand, this is why they might be priced a bit higher then you expected and are priced much higher then NADA lists them.

Personally, I dont think you can compair KBB to NADA along the lines of jetboats. NADA does not have a solid database of boats. There was a large amount of boat hull manufactures in the 70's. It seemed as if every street corner in California had a shop pumping out hulls. Most were copies and rip offs of other well established hulls.

Today, there are only a handfull of companys still offering jetboat hulls. Thus why the used market has a large demand.

Good luck with your boat shopping!

Thanks for your help. Yes im still looking for the eliminator daytona. I was soo happy when a friend told me about the nada site, I looked at that first, then was let down when the prices were way higher than I thought, because I had the wrong idea from nada about what boats were gonna cost. I will just save a lil more. and look around then pick the boat. thanks for everybodys help.... happy jetting....
