Boat and trailer have been at a consignment lot for a while now. but have to bring it home asap. I took it there with my 1/2 ton truck but have since sold the truck and am driving a 05 Element. In trying to identify a rig to bring it back I want to make sure not to overload the rig so...Anyone have a close idea what a 1989 21' Gemini jet boat, big block on a double axle Hallett trailer might weigh? I had it over the scales right after I bought it but cannot recall the weight. Thanks in advance.

My WAG would be in the hood of just under 3,000lbs. If it's more than that, it won't be much.

WAG works for me. Thanks guys. Guees I am going to have to wait for my son's truck. The Element has a 1500# max and I would have pushed it to 2k but not more. Was looking forward to how red boat might look behind the red Element....

How far you looking to tow? And is it a hilly road, lots of stop n go?
I towed mine with an s10, 3500# Max cap. Fair level road thru town, moved it about 4-5miles.no problems. Didn't get there in a hurry and stopping was OK with surge trailer brakes. If your trip isn't far....you might be able to swing it. Also may need an adapter from element receiver up to the size needed to mount the hitch with the ball to tow boat. Going above Max cap is one thing....but not using proper ball size..... makes me flinch thinking of it....

just rent a truck from home depot or uhaul to tow it. $29 a day or something like that. dont risk your life and possibly endanger other lives by towing something thats almost double the weight of your MAXIMUM capacity of your current vehicle.

Actually not a bad idea!
Just make sure it has a receiver...or at least a hole in bumper to mount ball.

Take a 21' Eliminator, or a 21' Tahiti (see Jarvis' Tech sheet), or a 21' Bahner, for example- 1600 lbs, bare hull. 750Lbs for a BBC, Berkeley pump, 100 lbs.. 50 gals of fuel- 325 lbs, totals 2775 lbs... but weight, theres' more, about 1000 lbs of trailer, now your at 3775 lbs, EMPTY, Plus gear- cooler, chairs, umbrella, BBQ, etc. OH!, and if its a McMerCruiiser, add a couple hundred pounds more, 4K lbs is within reach. But hey, I have an F350 PSD, not a gas-stationwagon.
BTW- the 'bilge plug' gets used twice a year, in the fall, and in the spring...

soon as i weighed mine, i had to look for a spec sheet. turns out, as you know, youre right. i dont recall the actual numbers on this brochure, but 2775 sounds about right. much heavier than i thought it be.
it wasnt a great idea to tow with the s10...but it wasnt far. dumb move? perhaps. its what i had at the time. ive got a bigger dog now. all ended well....maybe luck. now, i wouldnt tow the boat to the water with s10....ill never make up the launch ramp :o

I've used the wife's '05 GMC Canyon, 3.5l 5 cyl, pulling the Eliminator to Willow Beach, 70 with a/c all the way, about 85 miles one way, its a mini super duty in disguise.

I've pulled it's limit to havasu, from Anaheim... with a manual and 4 little mice under the Hood. Didn't run a/c....it was a nite run. But no way I'd pull my boat that far. Could be some 2nd gear pulls going up some of the hills...

I towed my 21 commander open bow to Havasu all the time with my s10 it towed my boat just fine i used the truck to launch it also my truck had a 4.3 vortec and waa a 4x4

Not going to chance pulling with the Element. Maybe across town but not over Hwy 20, about 65 miles of twists and some decent hills. Maybe by the time his truck gets freed up the torrential downpours will have stopped anyway. It is all nice and detailed up so not looking forward to rain and muddy roadspray. If all else fails I will do as suggested and rent a uhaul pickup although that could get a little expensive round trip.

Whoa....That's a long way. I wouldn't take that trip.
The U-Haul trucks, if you can.....use one of those. I've even rented a silverado.... put a ball on bumper...went down the road. Be safe...what ever you do.
My s10, was a manual, 4cyl, single cab.
