Title: Broken zerk grease fitting on top of Berkeley pump
Post by: Tylerohara on May 22, 2016, 08:11:32 PM
Hey guys I'm pretty new to jet boats and pumps. So feel free to educate me as much as you want.
Anyways, I bought a new grease gun to lube the the bearing closest to the engine that has the zerk fitting. The jaws on the gun were so dam tight it snapped the zerk off.

My question is, are these zerks pressed into the pump or threaded in? Has anyone broken theirs before? Any recommendations how to get the remaining piece out of the pump and install a new one?
Thanks!

Broke mine the same way on my dominator. I drilled and tapped for a bigger size. Mine had a real small one and broke off real easy

Did you drill and re tap it while the pump was In the boat?
I'd be concerned about the metal shavings from drilling and tapping getting into the bearing area.

Left handed drill bit and a big blob of grease. They are threaded.

Mines on the side and I packed the drill bit and hole with grease and did a little at a time cleaned and did some more. When done sucked out the hole with shop vac.

Good to know they are threaded!

I packed the hole with grease and hit it with a drill and easy out but it wouldn't budge :/ I'll pick up the easy outs that are threaded at my local hardware store and see if that style easy out works.
I doubt hardware stores Cary left hand bits...could be wrong.
