Title: Buyer's Guide For First Time Jet Boat Owner

Stoked to be a new member and stoked about my first jet boat!
I've owned several boats and jet skis in the past but this will be my first jet boat purchase.
With that, I know all the usual stuff when it comes to checking for water ingress in transoms and stringers, etc.
My hope here is that, with a few pictures I'll have attached with this post, I can get someone more knowledgeable to give their opinion of these mounting plates that look a little suspect.
The boat is a potential buy but it's 11 hours away and I'm not looking for a project after spending $14K.
The guy definitely knows his stuff when it comes to engine building and has owned the boat for some time.
Very nice, seemingly genuine guy but not sure how deep he's gone on the build.
ANY feedback would be much appreciated.
OH! The boat is a '79 Southwind 19' btw.

Post by: Roadrunner on March 17, 2023, 07:00:18 AM: Southwinds are fantastic boats. They are light, quick and nimble. Something to look for is the stringer lifting, cracking delaminating. Most of those were quarter stringer boats. Big power takes its toll after 40+ years. Also, those hulls had a tendency to crack between the outside of the stringer and the gunnel, along the strake, in the back next to the motor. Easy fix. Either issue wouldn?t be a deal breaker.

I was more referring to how the brackets looked to be smashing the stringers. Think that's an issue?

Thank you for the reply! Just a little intimidating never have taken on a stringer project before..
