Title: Buying a jet boat...
Post by: fmf1996 on March 15, 2014, 10:58:07 PM
What to look for?
What to stay away from?
Is cost relative, not what KBB or NADA says?

Thanks guys, any info would be great.  Looking to strike soon and meet ya'll on the river.

Oh, I am looking at a '77 Eliminator this week.  $2500-$3000...Ford 460, Berkley pump...possible new floors...he has it posted on here for sale.  Thoughts?

Thanks,
Chris

If you're able to do some maintenance and repairs yourself you can look for the better "deals" by finding something that will need some fixing.

If you're needing something that is turn key "ready to go" expect to pay a little more.

Some items to look at will be deteriorated wood (seat bases, transom, stringers), fuel tank condition (fiberglass, aluminum, stainless), damage to hull, condition of engine and accessories...

Good luck.

If you don't get in a hurry, post any questions you have here and someone will chime in and give you some advice.

Thanks Chief!
Not in too much of a hurry...still on the fence if I want to stay in my cash budget, or use that as a fat down on a bigger ticket item...

I can fix about anything, but not sure I want to these days...I am looking at that 77 Eliminator that is up here for sale...it will be out here on Monday from El Centro for new floors.

Question, checking the stringers...are they accessable with the floor in?  Maybe can see the centers through a ski locker??

Kbb for a jet boat is about $3.50.  The general rule of thumb I go off of is not how much its worth but how much will it cost to make it a running boat. And the value is greatly influenced by by the season.

+1... i got a real good deal on my vessel 3 months ago. Buy right after or mid post season. Don't buy now!!! Prices are jacked up by 1000 bucks at this point. 1000 bucks could get you brand new interior lol. Think about it.
