Today's channel 5 news:
California, "1st. state of the union to fail."
1. 10 percent unemployment and rising
2. 1 out of 4 homes lost due to foreclosure
3. homeless climbing daily.
Is it time to leave Ca. as so many are doing.
This may be a great place to live...but if there is no economy, why stay ??? ???
Whata you think :-\
-
Why are you trying to paint such a rosie picture.
It's more like 12% unemployment. :banghead:
-
Take this oppertunity to buy a better house and get better toys before the economy goes back up! ;D

Nevada is having the same issues right now. But as Marc said....Find a way to use this economy to your advantage. I have a Real Estate office as a client, they are making more money now then they were 2 years ago. Houses are selling because prices are rock bottom! You just have to find a way to make it work for you. If that means leaving Cali then so be it!

As soon as I get my education taken care of, I'm out of this place, I love it geographically, my friends and family are here, but I can't deal with the taxes, the retarded state govt, or the way we bend over backwards coddling the illegals. Texas, here I come........................
-
Lets vote out every incumbent (left or right) and start over, they all think they have a job for life and could give a shit about the people and state!

WTF does Texas have going for it?
Hmmm, here's a short list, not in any order
1. Austin Texas is one of my favorite places on the planet
2. Killer Texas BBQ
3. The live music scene in Austin
4. Lake Travis
5. Shiner beer
6. Good prices on land & homes (30 min W of Austin 250K will buy you a damn nice house on 2+ acres)
7. Great people
8. It ain't California
I'm sure I can think of a shitpot more, but that's the short list.
you can have Califuckya, you ready for the new tax rates come Nov 1?

Works for me!
I'm just bustin your balls... ;D
I am pretty much married to this POS state for another four years, more if I can stand it....I have two kids in high school and they are both honor students, I cannot screw that up.
I have visited some freinds in Austin and once in Lubbock, it's all yours Skip....
I also remember as a kid being in Fort Worth and it was 17,000 degrees and the flys were all carrying matching luggage...If memory serves, they get tropical storms there too....
I'll take the occassional earthquake and higher taxes....For now anyways....
-
I like the " CALIFUCKYA "
Whatta way to ruin this state
Guess it's time for Ca. residents to choose between
Fight or Flight :sly:

For cost of living and no bullshit laws Texas is very hard to beat. Austin is quite possibly one of the very nicest cities in Texas no doubt. Lots of beautiful country but they do have some "challenging" weather everywhere in the state, some more fun than others ;D
Cali taxes and laws are changing for the worse for sure. And be sure to VOTE EM ALL OUT !

Isn't the cost of living thing sort of relative?
I made 144K last year, couldn't do that in any other state, so it should stand to reason that it should cost more to live here, after all, I'm just a building mechanic for crying out loud....
Besides, houses here are going to be in the mid 200's soon anyways, especially if more people leave the state
GT
-
I'll take the higher taxes....
GT- Here's a little info for you:
From the FTB website;
"Revised 2009 withholding tables
The EDD expects to release revised withholding tables for 2009 to reflect a 10 percent increase in early October 2009. ABX4 17 (Ch. 09-15), a budget trailer bill, inflates the withholding for all California wages paid on or after November 1, 2009, by adding an additional 10 percent to the amount currently being withheld."

I was born and raised in Oregon and also raised to hate Californians.... Then I got old enough to work and waddayaknow - there's no work in Oregon. So I moved to Silicon Valley in 1980 and have kept trying to stay back in Oregon ever since. But no matter what I try I keep ending up back in CA because there's a shit load of people, activity, dynamics and therefore stuff happens in CA. Oregon is great to live in because nobody else lives here - therefor no fuggin economic activity. Second in the nation for unemployment only to that hell-hole Michigan.
Now I am about to move back to CA for the 4th or 5th time. Chasing the $$$$ again.
But yeah I sure wish CA would pull it's liberal head out of it's ass and quit coming up with all the retarded stuff like Gaagaagoogoo muscles and CO warning stickers on boats and gay this gay that. Spend spend spend oh hey how come there's no money anymore?
Wish there was a 4th west coast state that had the best of all worlds - no dumb asses but economic activity.
Look out San Diego - here I come again! ;D :banghead: ;D :banghead: ;D :banghead:

If I could make $60K a year, I would move to Oregon in a congestive heartbeat...(sorry, my wife is in the medical field :screwy: )

GT. I have friends in Oregon, they love it, just rains to much.
but...How will u make 150k a yr. out there ???
Unless you start ur own biz.

That is exactly my point...I call it golden handcuffs.
I could never make $150K a year there. I could have moved to Gold Beach Ore. and taken over my grandads automotive alignment and frame shop and pulled down a whopping $30k annually, I just couldn't convince the wifeepoo it was a good idea..... :-\
You have to keep in mind the property taxes are out of control there too, there is no sales tax......
I don't mind the rain too much, Lake Shasta is only a short drive away compared to from here......Yes, Shasta would actually be closer :sly:

GT... One friend of mine is in Port Orchard...U know where that is??
He just complains of too much rain & depression...Sht I love the rain ;D

Are you sure of the Port Orchard and not Port Orford? Port Orford is a bit south of Coos Bay....I don't know of Port Orchard though... :-\
That is actually a cool little old whaling town.
GT
-
GT, what is this whaling town you speak of. Man I haven't had any good whale meat since my aunt sent us some that was canned from Japan. Sorry off topic.
Have some family in Bend Ore., high desert, not much rain, lakes are close, but I dont know about work.

I use whaling town as a description of a caostal town that "once was"... It was actually a shipping port for the logging industry that has been asleep for decades...Really quet....If you ever go there (more like through there), you have to stop at the Hard Rain Pizza Co., you will not be disapointed.
I think it is about 30 miles north of Gold Beach obviously on the coast.

I realize it's a discription of days gone by. I was just throwing out my anti greenpeace statement in a, what I consider funny way. Whale actually does taste good, (it's the other red meat),but I know its kind of a taboo subject. I figured people would stay away from commenting on that post.
-
My aunt and uncle live in eugene, ore.they lived in simi valley they when my uncle was able to only work like 130 days a year down here for the studios.this is after being in the studios for 35 years.

Texas has a bunch going for it.
Cost of living is 60% less than Cali
not run by a bunch of libs unless you live in Austin way to many tree huggers there for me
Tons of great lakes and rivers to boat on.
Lowest unemployent in the country not saying much now but we are low here
no state income tax
70.00 bucks a year to reg your car
65ish every two years for the boat
60ish for the trailer
Homes are very cheap in the Houston area new construction is about 75 a sqft
used is about 65 a sqft
awesome hunting and fishing
Way to GD hot and humid
I will take a hurricane every 15 years over the annual fires and earthquakes
Hell hurricanes you got plenty of notice to GTFO
I love Texas
Cali to me is a great place to visit no doubt about that. Has to be one of the most beatiful states there is
-
Califukya will come back......but not without MANY casualties.
Suprised not many people are chiming in about this :sly:
-
several friends from or in socal some like most do not
the GF is from Beaumont and says she will stay here
I hope it gets back to its glory years of yester year to much going for it to be pissed away
-
im just reading thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fock its that bad
-
This is not a personal attack on you or Texas...... ;)
Texas has a bunch going for it.
Cost of living is 60% less than Cali
Cost of living is typically dictated by median income....California's wages are typically quite a bit higher than that of Texas for the same job....60%, I don't know, but a lot...
not run by a bunch of libs unless you live in Austin way to many tree huggers there for me
Give it some time (lots of Californians moving to Texas :)
Tons of great lakes and rivers to boat on.
Here too. ;)
Lowest unemployent in the country not saying much now but we are low here
Not as many high paying jobs going away.
no state income tax
It's made up somewhere, trust me on this... :sly:
70.00 bucks a year to reg your car
That's cool 8)

Yeah, but it's Houston. ;D
awesome hunting and fishing
Here too, just a bit north of here, name something.....
Way to GD hot and humid
Only saw three days here over 105*, I don't think the humidity got over 60% all year :-*
I will take a hurricane every 15 years over the annual fires and earthquakes
Hell hurricanes you got plenty of notice to GTFO
Not me. :P
I love Texas
That right there is all that matters... ;)
Cali to me is a great place to visit no doubt about that. Has to be one of the most beatiful states there is
Which is reason #1 it costs so damn much to live here....Another is, about 9 years ago, I went snow skiing in the middle of June, the very next weekend I went surfing and jetskiing at the beach, never drove more than three hours...
I'm not saying I hate Texas, just saying it does not fit my lifestyle....

haha I was gonna say exactly that. Now why you being so optimistic? It's 12.75 and rising.

Gold Beach is awesome. An airport, a marina, a river, right on the coast, forest, not in CA. What more could a guy want? Oh yeah...a job.
-
FOR THOSE OF YOU OUT IN THE BULLHEAD/ MOJAVE VALLEY AREA:
WHAT IS THE ECONOMIC SCOOP ??
wHERE IS THE MONEY ??? ???

I got the 60% based on my income and for me to maintain my current lifestyle i would have to make 59.65% more than i make here
GT
Not an attack on you or Cali either
My to GD hot and humid was about us here in Houston the summers suck a$$ for sure

What did your Uncle do for the studios, & when did he give up..?
I'm just starting out in the Transpo Dept. but have worked in the biz since '98.
It is super tough right now, but i think it will get better.. Hopefully.!! *crosses fingers*

Oregon. Hmmm lets see, rain in half the state with wind, mist, and drizzle 10 months a year. Snow in the winter and heat the other part of the year, but at least 300 days sun. Bend has 12+ unemployment with every fourth house forclosed. The coast unemployement is nearly as high as Bend, cost of living very high in comparison to income potential, no state tax but property tax is high and they are looking for more ways to raise money. School systems suck in most districts. I got an idea! If all of the southern Californians would move up here, vacating that part of the world, maybe someone would buy my house for more than it is worth and I could move to San Diego or somewhere I could use my boat for more than five days a year, could ride my mountain bike in the sun without a rain jacket. Oregon is a beautiful place to live, if you can afford it. It is just getting harder to make a living as keep working so hard to screw up the economy. Oh yeah, ya gotta be ultra liberal, willing to hug every tree, avoid every owl etc.
-
They just need to deport ALL illegals and all states would be bitchen to live in.....
-
Cali has 12% of the country's population and 32% of its welfare cases . . . whats wrong with this picture?
-

The great thing about Oregon is: nobody lives here.
The bad thing about Oregon is: nobody lives here.

i think every where sucks ive been a logger my whole young life been org. wash. alaska. and cal. they all suck i make the most money here but also spend the most here saved the most in alaska because i lived on an island where there was no booze or woman allowed was there 5 months and saved every penny i made bought my boat when i got home to ca. so im a dieing breed guess theres really no place for someone who just dont know any better born broke die broke as long as i can keep the famly happy ill work for the penuts as long as there out there :banghead:
-
You all are luck you dont live ia WA , they say 9.3% unemployment more like 15% real unemployment, if you count all the peole that quit looking and no longer get the free ride, $80 a year to tage your car, $75 for boat, $35 for trailor, Oh wait if you win the lotto for big not only do they get the tax but the govener will come to your home and ask for more to help the state buget problem, I dont under stand how there saying we have a short fall in the buget when the last one was 30,000,000,000 and now they want 38,000,000,000 and they say we have to cut back whats wrong with stay with what we had oh wait it's the Demacrats spend till it's all gone and tax the hell out of us, oh wait let not deal with the border jumper by sending them home no we will give them health care , send them to school and help the become legal wath the fuck is wrong with this pic , I did get a free ride why should they.
-
what the hell is up with all the schools in cali make the kids that are born here learn a forign laguage but dont make the scratch backs learn english before they can come here. call dmv or anyother gov. unit and they ask you 10 ? in spanish before saying hit 5 for english this state caters to the illegal immigration problem when 90% of the money they make here heads south i bust my ass and the gov. wants half of everything i got then they want me to play nice and do what they want F O i say ive had enuff screw the gov. work for cash and haul some ass
