JJ Chevrolet has really turned to shit. I thought Courtesy was bad. They charged my warantee for work not performed. They f'd up my interior in the vette. The gave me a rental car for my warantee work that cost the GMPP warantee 35 / day (the max) and it was a friggn ford with no cruise control and roll up windows.
They didn't even fix the friggn problem. I took it to City to unfuk what Jimmy Johnson Chevrolet did. The warantee car they gave me is a brand new impala loaded and it is only costin 27 bux a day. Oh and they have the rentals at the dealership not across the street and the ass holes at Enterprise that pre authorize your credit card for a rental that is covered under warantee !, HELLO !
JJ also tried to rip me off and only give me 30 bux instead of 35 bux per day rental credit as stated in my contract. What a buch of assholes. Thjis is about the half of it.
I just figured all should know....
beware
FOR THOSE GETTING WARANTEE WORK.
-
doesnt surprise me. car dealers are desperate to stay a float and will do anything to make a buck or charge services off to warrentys.

I had one of my regular customers bring in a Ford truck that a local Ford dealer could not duplicate the concern. The Truck is an '08 with 28000 miles (well within warranty). We took it to a different Ford dealer (one that we buy a lot of parts from and trust there opinion) to have them check it out. We were told that Ford is no longer paying for diagnosis with no problem found, requiring us to agree to the diagnosis fees if they can't duplicate the problem. I don't know if it was just this dealer giving me sh*t or if Ford is actually trying this.
All I can say is be very aware of whats going on when you take a vehicle to any shop.
-
Actually...I'm not so sure about Ford, but at the GMC store I worked for,we were allowed to charge .2 tenths of an hour for a "No problem found" or a "Could not duplicate", IF we followed all the procedure's..clocking in and out, road testing, proper paperwork procedure's...but AT NO TIME are they supposed to charge the Customer for this! Also,as far as being "quoted" for checking it out, that is a normal procedure also..doesn't necessarily mean you "will" be charged. Depending on the "complaint" and nature of repair (aftermarket stuff and such). Once the Veh. is checked and problem is found,if it is that the problem was found to be caused by aftermarket stuff or "customer caused" and will not be covered by Warr. at that point the Serv. Adv. should call the customer and give him the option of repairing it at a cost to him. If the Cust. decides they do not want to repair it,sometimes (depending on what the Tech. went thru to diag. it) they may charge .5 tenths or maybe even an 1.0...You would not believe the shit that customer's try to pull on Dealership's! Anyway....that's just my Dealership experience and my .02! ;D Tracy........"Skee" :)
-
When I worked for Ford (94-96), they gave .5 hours for diagnostic. We did have an interesting problem once, it took the tech 4 hours to diagnose a problem once that was caused by a screw put through the wiring harness by a stereo place installing an alarm system. It took about two weeks for the screw to start shorting out the computer. Stereo shop had to re-emburse the customer for the repair (computer, 4 hours diagnostic time at $90 an hour, etc.). A $150 alarm cost the stereo shop over $600 because their install guy screwed up. (pun intended)
Sorry for the drama you had to go through Danger731, but at least maybe you found a better dealer out of it.

working as a sevice writer for ford, this is not a fact, yes they want you to auth a diag even if it is warranty because lets say you bring it in for an intermitant crank no start, we find aftermarket alarm installed causing a interm interfierece with starter relay. it would be fraud to warranty that through ford so the right thing to do is to cover yourself. in this istance the customer said, "finally someone gets rid of that stupid alarm" and has no problem paying the 89 bucks. customers try to pull fast ones all the time.
here is a reason to always go to the dealer, if they ever make a mistake (it happens) they will fix it they have to! also i get small garages bring me vehicles they cant fix without the customer ever knowing. We at ford have to figure it out and fix it, we cant just drop it off somewhere else and say here fix it. no we have to get ford on the line, get an engineer out and solve the damn problem. not all dealerships are bad, you just need to find one you trust, and do your best to tell them the symptoms. if it is interm write down exactly what you were doing, speed, bumps, idle, time of day, etc to help the tech understand your frustrations. my jobs is to get your vehicle fixed. Trust me i dont want you calling me pissed after i had your vehicle for a few days. just a service writers pov.

Lemme tell you about my experiences with GM and why I will NEVER buy one of their products again. I bought a Gran Prix brand new in 97. In under 18K miles the trans developed an intermittent problem of not going into low gear when coming to a near or complete stop. In the course of three different trips to the dealer I kept getting the line "we don't know what is wrong. We are waiting for Detroit to tell us what to do." This was going to get me killed as it always happened at the same corner by my house when I needed to pull out onto a busy 4 lane. They replaced the torque convertor, a wiring harness, several servo's or relays and eventually the valve body but never fixed the problem. Never offered me a loaner or a trip to the rental place 3 blocks away.
On the day I went to pick it up for the trans prob. (the last time) I get in it to leave and the steering makes a horrible noise like no fluid. The first brainsurgeon/mechanic goes to get another brainsurgeon who proceeds to drown my shock towers and everything else with WD40 telling me that the rubbers are dry. Yeah right. I throw a fit and run off a few customers as I am still parked right next to the service writer's booths and at least 10 cars are lined up waiting to get in first thing in the morning. Eventually a proper diagnosis happens and they have to replace the entire steering rack AT 22K MILES!
Next year more intermittent problems lead to replacing the main engine wiring harness.
The final straw was when my wife went out to go to work at 5 AM and she couldn't get the car into Drive. It was towed on a flatbed to the dealer who diagnosed a bad shifter. They fixed it 6 fukin' times before they got it right. First they tried to blame it on her. Then they tried to blame it on spilled soda or something into the mechanism. Then after the second trip to get it fixed (yes another tow) the shifter actually came off in her hand! They said "that can't happen. The design won't allow it." Do you see the shifter in my hand you stupid MF'r!!! Then the replacement did the exact same thing. After picking up the car on trip number 5, it wouldn't go into gear for me less then 30 mins. after leaving the dealer. I almost punched out the General Mgr. when he told me GM wouldn't authorize a rental after my 5th trip in.
I have dealt with 5 different Pontiac dealerships in the course of owning that car and they all treated me like shit. None of them was interesting in retaining me as a GM customer. You guys that buy GM cars and trucks I will never understand. Fuk em !!!
Sorry for the rant. Don't taz me bro

I was a GM service technician from 1988 to 1990, your story is not an unfamiliar one.
The problem with dealer service shops is, someone, somewhere within the organization, needs to give two sh!ts...Most don't, not all, but most.
I had a guy bring a 1990 Corvette Raodster 4+3, dark blue, black top, bitchen car. Anyway, he brings it in and I am the driveability tech in Gridly ca (near Yuba City) and his complaint is a rod knock. So I have to keep it overnight because he says it only does it in the morning. No problem, get him a ride home all is good. The next morning, I start this thing up (it has 6,600 miles on it) and it has what sounds like a rod knock for about a minute and half, then slowly fades and goes away (totally away with 40# of oil pressure), I drove the car (hauled ass >:D ) and told the service manager what I found, basically a collapsed piston (common). He says write it up as "no problem found"...  ..
Well, I told the service writer to call GM tech and tell them I have another one...The service writer says "another one what?", so I said motor. I was not going to let this guy live with a badass car he probably saved for years for to have to live with a knock...Cold or not...
The service manager, who is the worlds biggest A-hole, threatens to fire me, I lose it and went off on this jackhole for twenty minutes (in the showroom) and finally asked him "what gives you the right?" His answer almost made me fall down....."He'll never buy another car here anyways"...What?! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
To make a rediculously long story short, he OK's the engine change, I get the dude taken care of, and he comes in weeks later with his dad who buys a brand new Z71 extended cab pickup, loaded. BTW, I got the comission and an apology from the service manger.
90 days later, that aluminum headed 350 was in my 1972 K5 CST Blazer 4X4 after a piston swap....Factory OEM parts BTW.
I quit two weeks after my Blazer ran. >:D Paybacks a bitch. ;)

Hey G/C...I can sympathize with you on this issue,I know that some guy's at not only Dealership's may be idiot's but I guarantee you will find more at Independant shops...I really am sorry you had to go thru that shit to get the car fixed and you most certainly should'nt have!! One thing tho....your bashin' GM... Let me tell ya sumthin'...I worked for for Ford for alotta lotta years and for the longest time I would defend Ford from anything ANYBODY had to say about them...but as I started doing more and more work on the side (and as I got older) then I started working for GMC I started to see that a car is a car...they all have their problem's. It is,still to this day,my feeling's (for the most part) that if a vehicle is cared for and maintained properly ( I know this from personal experience) that you may not experience problems that some do. I have worked for Ford and GM and see that they all have their problems, some more than other's but that is what it is! Hell,if I wasn't such a STRONG AMERICAN, I might even think about buyin' a Honda as a daily driver, but I won't,cuz I AM AN AMERICAN. I choose to stay with FORD for a few different reason's....#1 It's what my Daddy brought me up with. #2 I like they're style. #3 They're the smarter of the bunch, they didnt take any Govnm't money and they are the stronger of the "Big 3". After working for GMC,I would not have a problem buying one of their vehicles, except for in my case (after all the knowledge I have) it comes down to one thing.....Personal Preference....As I said before...A car is a car...they all break at one time or another and in the end..I choose to but a Ford because I like them and it's as simple as that..... ;D Skee

I just grew up with Mopar. Owned a few Fords and a few Toyotas and Hondas. Just never owned a GM. In High school I got into drag racing and of course that is where you find blind brand loyalty like no other. Chevys are like assholes cuz everybody has one yada yada yada . . .
Never could get excited about anything other than a 67 Chevelle and my Mopars always outran 'em, so I just never was inclined to own one. I owned some of Fords worst ideas (76 and 79 Mustang II's with 4 bangers) and a Ranger and a Bronco II. Not great, not bad either but I never kept any of them over 100K miles like my Dodges.
I loved that Gran Prix and it is still one of my all time favs that I have owned to drive BUT the dealer mentality was just plain unacceptable. I voted with my feet as they say.

When I had my Silverado 03-07 I had a few issues here and there. Started getting shitty service at the dealership that I bought it from in Tustin. Around that time they opened a chevy dealership in Lake Forest and started going there. Always awesome, deals on parts, rides to and fro when I needed it!
Some dealers staff are just a fricken joke, you have to find the ones who just arent a paycheck employee and actually give 2 sh!ts!

It is much easier to keep a previous customer happy than it is to get a new customer in the door.
Unfortunately when things go sideways most shops think its easier to just blow off the "problem" customer than step up, bite the bullet and take care of the customer.
We currently have a 2003 F250 with a 6.0L Power Stroke that went sideways on us. We did some diagnosis and resealed an oil pressure leak at an injector. Advised the client that we felt he still had a leak or a failing high pressure oil pump. Client paid the bill and went to leave, truck stalled when leaving and would not restart. My guy has burned up a sh!t load of time on this thing, so we made a deal with the owner that we would comp the labor if he bought the parts because we want to know for sure what the failure is.
Sometimes this is necessary to keep a customer, and gain future referrals because he will say we were fair with him.
On the Ford/GM issue. My tech wanted to take a picture of the line up of Fords (2 Excursions, F250, F550, F-Series) being worked on, and the line up of Chevys in the employee parking lot (3 Tahoes, 2 Trucks, Envoy, Monte Carlo, Impalla). :screwy:

well in all my years at a dealer things have changed the guys they hire now a days are people they can pay 8-10 bucks a hour so they can save money on what they would pay a seasond tech to do jobs and alot of service deptments are being run like an HMO in and out and some dealers have gone as far as to buy tools to keep wages down as far as the ford adviser i do agree if you dont find the problem should be no charge to customer and the dealer should pay the tech depending on what tests he performed NPF or unable to duplcate customers cocerns at this time i wish i didnt have to work in this feild anymore and was able to do somthing i injoyed like Tom at jbp and have fun to ;D

I don't like the way the future of the automotive industry looks at this point either. "They" have technoligied themselves almost out of business, and in the process have done a damn good job of destroying the independents also.
What do you think?... will the car of tomorrow be so uniform that you will be able to buy wear items at WalMart.... Or will all cars be completely non-serviceable & recycled after driving only 50,000 miles?

Jeremy,
I have been going to that same Chevy dealership since I bought my 1990 S10, 1994 Blazer and my 2002 Tahoe. Have been dealing with the same salesperson and service writer almost the entire time. Always got treated great up until this last tranny issue. I truely belive my service writer did everything he could. 2 weeks later.......dealer shut its doors. Power Chevrolet in Irvive R.I.P. :(. Now I have to find a new dealership

I am actually surprised they made it this long, that little auto center was never really busy when I lived down there  But they always did me right!
