Title: Cool Story...
Post by: Brad @ SCJB on May 20, 2008, 11:45:43 AM
My sister was in town last week and her and her family along with my parents came over and we all hit up the local taco joint for taco tuesday. We started talking about old river stories and my dad brought one back into my memory that I had totally forgotten about....there are a lot of gaps, so bare with me.

I was probably about 10....kyle was about 5....my mom and sister were out at havasu on a saturday with my aunt n uncle and cousins about the 3rd cove up from windsor (which has been named as "Gargamel Beach" by my cousins). My father was up in Laughlin for an interview or something i believe.....In the early afternoon kyle and his dad took off up river for a cruise....and never came back and left us all stranded on the beach......it was getting late.

apparently, kyles dad went to hang a right into the cove where castle rock is (i dont know if thats its official name, but thats what we called it as kids).....and beached the boat on a sand bar that was only inches below the water. boat launched up on it then just rolled over on its side right out of sight of any traffic that would see him stranded. he tried for awhile to dig it loose....but it was getting late. Kyle left his shoes back at the beach so he threw kyle on his shoulder and started trekking across the desert up to the road to flag someone down to get a ride back into town.

Back at the beach, My aunt hiked to the road and hitched a ride back to windsor to get the van and trailer to bring it back down by where we were beached to load up everything. My uncle and kyle showed up and let us know what had happened. Sun was set and the boat was abandoned on a sand bar unsure how he was going to get it off.

My dad somehow got wind of what had happened and was headed down from laughlin that night. Along the way the truck in front of him was having some issues towing. Their truck was overheating so my dad offered to tow their boat to havasu for them and threw the wife and all the kids in our van and the followed him into town. Normally my dad wouldnt accept payment for stuff like this. He would just tell them to pass on the favor, but they were persistent to repay him.

He told them to meet him at Windsor beach at 7am at the north ramp and bring shovels. Sure enough, there was the family armed with shovels ready to dig the boat out. It took awhile, but they got it out. It sat there overnight unharmed.

dont really know the reason im posting this....maybe just to share the story.

Anyone got any cool stories of river comroddery?

I remember when I was little, a familly friend must of had a little too much do drink and launched his boat about 30ft up the beach right between the horseshoe pits. It took like 10 or 12 people to drag the boat back into the water. ;D

The neighbors (perm residents) had some friends who always arrived on Fri/Sat after midnight.  The neighbors always gave em crap about not getting in just a bit earlier so they would still be awake in the house (trailer).  Finally one time they pull in about 2am, back the boat right up to the bedroom window and fired it up.  "WE'RE HERE NOW MF'RS"  LETS PARTY!!!

The best one I remember was watching a guy launch his boat, trailer and truck into the river off the beach where The BlueWater is now.  The guy stopped the truck, got out and closed the door, went to disconnect the boat from the trailer and the whole thing started rolling back into the water.  The boat was still hooked to the winch with the bow under water and the ass sticking almost straight up  :o  Seeing the guy standing on top of the shell trying to figure out how to get it out was priceless  :banghead:

I think he was lucky that it didn't move down river into the dam before the tow company showed up.

P.S.  I make sure that my door is unlocked and window open when I'm on the ramp!

One of the campgrounds in Blythe has pics of a guy who drove off the edge of the 15 ft wall next to the ramp.  Truck and shell sitting on the nose on the ramp.  No clue as to how they solved that problem.  F'n hilarious  :D    Hope it wasn't any of you Bud drinkers.  You guys aren't too sharp .    j/k

Last summer I was heading up river to Picacho and noticed the oil pressure dropping. I look back and smoke is pouring out of the breathers. Before I can turn her around, I start getting the knocking noises. I hoped I could limp her back home when the motor seized with a loud metalic thunk. I looked around and saw a hole in the side of the pan and knew we're done. Up river and realize no paddle. I'm screwed. Just then the river patrol rounds the bend and I flag him down. He explains that he can't tow me because they got sued last year over scratched gel coat!!! He offered to call someone (including tow service). I said if I had a paddle I'd be ok. He tosses me his. I tell him I'll leave it at Fisher's for him and he said no, just keep it!. So I start paddling. I paddled about 30 mins as boat after boat pass us by. Then this dude in a blue Ultra stops and offers to tow us in. He said he would tow us as far as he could since he was almost out of fuel. We got to within 2 miles from Fishers and pulled over on a sandbar. His engine was sputtering. He was going to go get some gas and come back. I unhooked my fuel line and flipped the pump switch and filled his tank up. Gave him some cold beer and we were ready to go. Towed us in. I offered him cash for towing us and he refused. Too cool. We thanked him told him we owe him some more cold ones sometime!!!

Blue Ultra, that has gotta be beerjet.  Yea, Yea, that it, it was beerjet.

I'm sure he would be more than willing to collect the rest of the payment for towing.

I looking out for you beerjet.  Don't want you to miss out on a few Buds  ;D
