Title: Crap up your nose
Post by: enginedoctor on June 03, 2009, 07:34:39 PM
Cylinder head rebuilder's.......What is your take on this ???

I  am an A.S.E. MACHINEST / A.S.E.CERTIFIED BLOCK SPECIALIST / A.S.E. CERTIFIED  CYLINDER HEAD SPECIALIST.

THE PROBLEM IS  EVERY TIME I GRIND VALVE SEATS IT GOES UP MY NOSE...AFRAID I WILL GLOW IN THE DARK
SOMEDAY :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:   ( Stone Grinding )

Steps I have taken at the work station:
1.  fans, deflecting dust./ speaker magnets in work station to help collect dust.( in work cabinet )
2.  Respirator mask /  multiple other fans to deflect the crap away.
Still, after every valve seat grind I crap the sht outa my nose....

Dust collector from Harbor Freight... Don't know how many times I had to clean that thing in the porting room  ;)

This is gonna sound super funny, but here goes.....

You need to ground your workstation, the static electricity generated from the friction is causing the dust to cling to you electronically (like powdercoating).

My dads machine shop had the same exact issue (we also installed a static resistant rubber mat to stand on)...

This is most common with a polisher used for aluminum or stainless, the rouge (sp) gets in your eyes and nose.

make this job safe for all that do it.....  I think GT is on the money ::)

WORST CASE  I WILL GLOW IN THE DARK AND NOT HAVE TO WEAR A HALLOWEEN COSTUME.
