I do a double shock at the beginning of each season, get the shock for a pool that's bigger than yours, I do 2 3LB packages, I run 3 3" tabs in the floater and I scrub the shit out of the sides and bottom with a stainless steel brush, no mo critters. Have you backflushed or cleaned out your filter lately?

You talkin about the lil black beetle critters?  Double dose of muriatic acid, and as Skip said, shock the shit out of it, kills them every time. Fockers I haven't ever seen back since I did that last fall!

there basically a water bug and can multiply very quickly. Never have tried the methods you guys have talked about but you can go get a poly based algeacide and add to pool accordingly. the poly in the product actually coats the bugs an kills them. I thought there"s no way it will work but it did. BTW ive been a pool guy for 8 yrs. but there are more than one way to skin a cat.

boys easy on the shocks to pools........just adding the calcuim is going to jack up the tile and u will need more acid to keep walls smooth and brush but the extra acid will strip the coppers out of systems.......algicides work ........sodium bromide......good.................

Here is what we do...

Run the Chlorine (I use Bromine diluted in water) a little high for a day or two (only chlorinate at night, it gasses off slower) then for an average sized pool, squirt in two ounces of Dawn dish washing soap and add some Back Up  http://www.hydropool.com/cgi-bin/hydro/23006.html  Water bugs be dammed... >:D

BTW, the Dawn lowers the surface tension and makes it so the water bugs can't breath....

Three days, no bugs. ;)

BTW, scrub the pools sides every evening while in shock mode....

I have had a pool since I was 7...Don't have one now, but dad does...
