Title: Custom Headers
Post by: MADSKILLZ on April 23, 2014, 12:01:00 PM
So I decided to build another set of headers for my boat. These are a little different than the last set. Here are some pics. What you guys think?

Thank you! For header building I purchase mandrel bent U-bends.  I have a JD2 bender that I use for building sand cars and roll cages but it won't bend these tight bends on 16ga. Tube

Okay, I was gonna say, those are super tight bends for a JD2, are you producing 1 off sets for order? Also where do you get your stuff coated?

I can build custom one off headers to what the buyer wants or I can duplicate this style header. I use Young Guns in Rancho Cucamonga since they are near where I work at.

There is a high temp clear powder coating that is getting done nowadays. It's something you could look into. It's weird too though, almost feels grippy to the touch but is a high temp coating.

Ceramic is so nice, any stains or melted timing gun clamp smears disappear after a few minutes of cruising...

I'm a big fan of Swain Tech White Lightning coating. It is applied very thick and feels like sandpaper but you can just about put your hand on the header and not burn the crap out of yourself. Probably would be a good coating for anyone with OT headers. Only problem is its white and can get dirty so after awhile its not very attractive unless you paint it with VHT Flameproof or something.

I have a 400 Pontiac that nobody seems to offer headers for, how much for a custom set similar (but doesn't have to be exact)?

X2 on that. I think they look bad ass natural although I don't know how'd they would hold up in a boat without some kind of coating. I remember back in the day racing MX we always left our pipes natural always hitting them with WD-40.

They won't hold up very well at all. They are currently out getting ceramic coated.

Just a stock 5r110  with 209xxx miles on it pushing 3 " tires it's whole life. Going to beef it up with high strength steel planetarys, shift kit and a billet 3 disc torque converter
