Great idea, except that the deleted posts are still archived in more than one place.

what are you talking about?

What goes on the internet stays on the internet, and not much you can do will erase it.
Your deleted posts will stand out even worse, sorry to say.
The person this is aimed at will know who they are - deleting your email address, and account won't work either, sorry.

you really need to be more clear as to exactly what you are talking about. Dont beat around the bush if youre going to call someone out.

The first thing the insurance company will do when they get to this forum, is look at your stats and notice that MOST of your posts have suddenly been deleted (shows the total number which doesn't match what is shown in the list) and that will drive them to one of the many internet archives that are available to them. Even if you are sure those posts aren't that bad, that you suddenly deleted them makes it appear that you feel that they ARE.

Not a call out, just a view of the future for one unlucky member. I don't want to embarrass them by naming them, nor did I want to send a PM and appear involved.

why does it even matter to you??

I received a message from that guy stating he didnt even start that thread...his son did....and he requested I remove it. Even then, its his problem, not yours...no reason to get wound up about it and create another thread calling him out.  :screwy:

Sure, no problem - I DON't care personally however I hate to see anyone screw themselves over by accident. I did the job of the person he will be involved with, if nobody wants to know this stuff just friggin delete me too!

Advise to anyone who reads this before I'm booted off: Never give your insurance company, boss, credit card, social worker etc the SAME email address you use to post on forums - everything you say, can and will be used against you - even if you've done nothing wrong, ever.

You're wrong. Unless you chose to make your email address public on this forum, it is not searchable by search engines. Thanks for your concern but you are misguided.

Well for one, what I and others had written was erased without our knowledge, or permission (yes I know we don't OWN it) lumping us in with the one that will be under investigation - I happen to use the same company. Left there they could have been explained, deleted they just look like they are trying to hide it.

I can see from the Admin that my time here is limited - sorry guys I really enjoyed this forum, but maybe it isn't a good fit anyway....

Trust me Brad, I'm not misguided - the PUBLIC can't find it thru Google, or Yahoo sure, but I guarantee you there are some who can, and that there are specially setup engines for the investigator/insurance/law enforcement agencies. I've used them, if they want they can find ANYTHING. If you think a robots txt is going to stop the po-po YOU are sadly misguided.

The robot.txt is not what is used to prevent that information from being posted. You just proved once again how misguided you are. Its the security of the forum which I am very on top of. If your above statement was true, everyone here would be getting tons of spam to their personal email addresses as soon as they signed up. Trust me, there is no one here thats scraping this site for email addresses....publicly or even by registered members. Only I have the ability to see that information and the 'po-po' cannot see that information as well. It is PRIVATE information. If they obtain any information other than legally, it would not stand a chance in court.....The only way they obtain that information is if they subpena my company to use the information in a court case. Your conspiracy theory is seriously misguided.

Well for one, what I and others had written was erased without our knowledge, or permission (yes I know we don't OWN it) lumping us in with the one that will be under investigation - I happen to use the same company. I really dont care what your opinion is about threads being deleted. I chose what stays and what goes, with or without your knowledge or consent. You accepted the terms when you signed up to my site.

If you are concerned about being 'lumped in with the one being investigated', then you shouldn't have replied in the first place.

I am not going to ban you, but politely ask you to leave. This isn't a place for your wildly misguided conspiracy theory's.

I think the guy is innocent, had you read anything you deleted you'd have known that.
Sure, I'm just a lowly civil servant with access to an engine like the one I speak of. Just because I'm not the programmer of this system, or know how it works doesn't mean it doesn't work - I guarantee you that it does.  He's not in my jurisdiction so it doesn't matter to me if he is or isn't legit. As a fellow jet-boater I was trying to give him the benefit of camaraderie and try to help him out.

You are going to have to boot me - if you want me to leave. If this is your reason, then that is even lamer than your site.

Anybody else want me to go? or stay?

Yes it is my preference - have you ever tried to use your 'search' feature? - sure we look there first, but still have to ask.
I wasn't referring at all about the appearance of your site - just it's functionality. If poor taste is expecting things to work, then yes I have VERY VERY poor taste.

I use it all the time, works fine. Seems like youre not using it properly.  :screwy:

Here is a thread to help guide you on how to use the search function: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Search (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Search)

BTW - you cant use it to search for email addresses, just saying  ;)

Gives too much information that has nothing to do with the query? Try to find something complex, not just a word...
Well I guess I'm terrible at my job as on office days, I'm sitting here doing searches all day long on over 100 sites - your's doesn't work well, too simplistic.

Nothing is perfect - if you are here because you think some Web site is, then I don't even have a response to that other than: get a life...

One piece of constructive criticism, and I'm an ogre? I didn't just say 'its ulgy,' or I just don't like it...no I mentioned ONE feature that doesn't work as well as most I've used.

Hope nobody ever disses your boat, geeze....

Not once did I make a personal insult or resort to name calling. I only corrected you on your statements about my website. My search function works fine. If you're getting too many results, maybe you need to use common search function modifiers like quotes and exclusions.

Professional is what I have done in this thread. I have even politely asked you to leave. Any other forum would have banned you on the spot without giving yourself a chance to redeem yourself from making accusations about my 'lame' site.

I have said it a million times. This isnt MY site. Its the members site. Without the members, its nothing. With that being said, I have also said this site is as only as good as its members make it. Have a complaint, let me know. I take constructive criticism very well. What isnt professional is saying its lame because you aren't educated on how to search properly. Since you say your job requires a lot of time using search engines on 100's of sites, I would also assume you know how to search this site using google. You CANT possibly tell me that google doesnt work as well.

You didn't call me names, others did...

This post wasn't about ANY of this!

yes, this is theirs. They call it their own. They have contributed a lot of time and information to make this place the resource it has become ...which is what attracted you here, right? So for them to take offense is not out of line at all.

No ones being touchy. youre the only one who got all huffy puffy in the pants for a thread I deleted that YOU didnt even start. The original poster had every right to request it to be deleted. Weather or not its going to benefit his case is none of your business or concern. To create a thread and accuse me that my security on my forum allows 'big brother' to scrape my site for email addresses is absurd when you have NO idea what you are talking about. Yes, the internet probably indexed and archived that thread before I deleted it, but it still doesn't link his personal information to him directly.

<end professionalism>

Please pull your head out of your ass and enjoy this site, otherwise I will ask you to leave again. Otherwise I will force you out. No one here likes an arrogant jackass.

Brad, I'm sorry... this post wasn't directed at you, I didn't want to send a PM, nor did I want to say the persons name - all out of respect.

This looks like pig wrestling, dirty and pointless.       :screwy:

NoCal ~  I for one hope you stay.    I suspect you exactly what you are talking about.

Brad ~  I love the comment Havasukona posted.  This really has become quite a unique animal, it really is different from any other recreational enthusiast site that I know of.   Much respect to you for how you have chosen to respond.   I can only imagine how much of your time and heart you have put into SCJB but ya know . . . he is providing a perspective of looking at this website from the outside.  You have spent endless hours looking from the inside out most of the time.  He may just have a tip or two that could help you somewhere down the road.  And for the record, I hate using the search feature on any site.  This does seem to be a weak spot on just about every site I have ever had the misfortune to need to use the damn thing.  They all blow.  You never know . . .
