Picked up my first 29er
Its a Jamis Exile Comp.
Fun but another expinsive hobby lol

i was in it for awhile a coupe of years ago. had a giant pistol. an all mountain full suspension bike. not the greatest....but i wasnt competing nor bombing down hills. it served me well. 29ers...some would say are the perfect combo of wheel size to frame....others disagree. theyll roll over bumps easier, but some say not the most nimble. to each his own.
i never got into hydraulic brakes....but again, not bombing down hills. i ran a hayes mx4, front and rear. worked great for me. i couldve used a lower rear gear....but...i managed. just had to put out more huff. i think it had 8 gears in the rear....9 wouldve been good.
the wife sported an older specialized fsr comp. gearing on that bike was better for me. theres a spot here locally to ride. its a little over 11 miles, at least the loop we did was. some decent up hills with some down hills. nothing crazy. another spot a little further south by the coast....el moro, i think....those hills were tough....and long. the loop there was about 15 miles....thereabouts. theres a trail there....you had to be a beast to ride up.
have fun on your bike bro....be safe.

Yeah 15miles I will need my 450 for that lol.
Yeah I got Hayes hydo discs hardtail with rock shox in the front. The wheels are doublewalled so tough but heavy but Im not racing it. Havent raced for 15yrs and that was 20inch BMX.
Just a fun way to build cardio.

Yep!
Can be fun. 11-15 miles....sounds far. Went by pretty quick tho. And it wasn't all up hill...
Loop took us 1hr 20min. When we first started.... by the time we stopped.... we were down to 40 min. Less stopping.... faster climbs....for us anyway. We burned between 800-1200 calories.
We had fun.

I guess I imagined in my head something different. I was thinking tight switchbacks or something. On the dirtbike we can ride out here 30-40 miles but take 3-4 hours to do it cause theres so many tight switch backs. Then eat lunch gas up and go 30 more miles.
Sounds like oh u rode only 70 miles but this is on mountains up huge hill climbs miles long. I was imagining that stuff
-
Ha. Sure felt that way when we started out. Lol.
Max loop distance is like 13 miles. We cut it down to 11 or so....as the last couple miles were just flat ground. The big hill section was about 2.5-3 miles. Not climbing for that distance...about half up,half down. The rest of loop has hills throughout but not as tall. It's a fun ride. Classed for beginners and mild intermediate.
I've got a 250f. Not sure how many miles we put on it on a ride....but we don't gas up mid way. We don't carry extra fuel and you can't ride in the streets here to gas up.
You put on the miles on your rides. Sounds awesome!

No we usually do a loop get back to the truck then take a totally different loop when riding with buddies.
Race-time they have a truck n trailer setup a Gas check at a halfway point.
I race "A" class District 36 AMA
