Title: Doghouse to Bench seat...does anyone have pics
Post by: TooSober on April 02, 2012, 05:14:02 PM
I am thinking of removing the doghouse over the motor and and have it fully covered and have a bench seat. I have seen a lot of good post but i was not able to find any pics of before and after. If you did do it how do you like VS. the old way?

I don't have a before and after. But my last boat had a doghouse with a seat on both sides, and the new one has a full cover. Way more storage with the full cover. It's easier for me to climb in the engine compartment for getting grass out the hand hole or making adjustments to the supercharger.

And you can't set one of these out in the sun on a doghouse to get a little color.

My old spectra had an engine cover and a bench seat. The seat was bolted down to the base and the back was supported by wooden blocks screws to the gunwales. The rear of the bench had some aluminum angle screwed to the back of the seat for the top support. There were also tabs for the cover on the gunwales. The top was hinged on the transom. It worked good. There is a lot of room for storage like Johnson said. Mine wasn't upholstered but you could still get some color on the back. Mine was made from fiberglass, but making one out of wood and having upholstered would be pretty easy to do.

Tower and mounts are gone now...I had back to back seats with house and now front seats with side rears and hatch.

Mine is hinged on transom also. The forwardmost part rests on a 2x3 on the back of the seat mine is all wood which I rebuilt with all stainless screws and hardware and reglassed prior to upholstery.

More pics.

Careful on placement of the stringers on the underside of hatch so that your gas shocks don't bind when you close. I'd you're in the hood you're welcome to stop by and see how it goes together and take measurements.

I am sold on doing it. Now just have to so if i can can do it myself. I think the biggest problem is going to be the upholstery on the driver and passenger seats. Being they have the reverse seats attached as one seat. Is it as hard as it looks to do it on your own?
