Expert opinions please!
« on: January 21, 2014, 09:11:58 PM »
Some of you may have seen my 68 rogers build. Well I just picked up a sleelcraft rebel (not sure of year at the moment) and its in decent shape. I bought it for parts for my Rogers build. But I'm thinking that it would take a lot less work to put it together. The kicker is that I cannot have both. So its one or the other.

The sleek is a 1/4 stringer and future plans call for a fairly high power engine. I've read that stringers aren't too important.

The Rogers needs a lot of work and im okay with that but I don't completely like the looks of the rogers. And I've read that they tend to bow steer badly because of the hull design.

I will mainly use the boat for local lakes and the river. With a rare trip down into havasu. My question for you is what route would you all go with my end goal of wanting a boat that will go fairly fast? And it does seem lighter than the Rogers and again I like the way the sleek looks more. But if the Rogers is truly the better boat here I'll continue on my path

Thanks in advance

Be advised that there are a whole lot of the Rogers cult here.  It probably is the better boat, if it is an unbiased answer you want, you may not get it here.

Rogers for sure! It's a much better choice to try to go fast. It's a proven hull if you put the work into it. The sleekcraft........ Not so much.
Also 600 to 700 hp in a 1/4 stringer boat.... Not a good idea JMO

I'm a little bias, but Roger's are better built boats. That being said, you have the old 60's version. The Cyclone has the deep entry and I wouldn't put big power to it. Nor would I want to put friends or family at risk riding in it. If it were the Super Cyclone or Bonneville model big power would be fine.
The SleekCraft Rebel is a good hull. That's the hull Rodger Finney is racing in Comp Jet now.

I love my sleekcraft, it's a 1970 19' it's alittle bigger then the rebel and there's not very many of them out there, but it's a heavy boat and well built. My old motor made 615 to the crank and it's a 1/4 stringer boat and I had no problems

Here's a pic of each. I'm still undecided. The comments about the deep entry have me worried
