Teach me dudes whats the difference in driving with pd when up when down in different conditions how do you guys use it to your advantage? Does it effect turning n how?  :-\

A Place Diverter is basically a trim device.

I does exactly what it sounds like it does. When in the full down position, it forces the bow down (or the transom up if you prefer) this helps get the hull "up on step" or to help generate a plane at lower speeds. It wont be fast, quite the contrary, if too low, the steering will feel heavy and exaggerated.

When the hull is planing (lets call it 35 MPH just for giggles) then you can raise/lower the nozzle to "tune" the ride, slowly begin raising the setting and you will feel the hull "free up" or "release" from the water. The side spray will also begin to move rearward. Too high and the bow rises to the extreme and speed begins to fall like a rock, also the boat can tend to porpoise, this is the uncontrolled bounce you can sometimes get that is very annoying.

At much higher speeds (call it 55mph+) the same movements hold true but to much more of an extreme, this is where a Diverter really shines.

Most 18-20' Jets like about a 6' tall rooster, this is just an easy way to tell where you are at as far as tune, some boats like more, some less. A droop can help or hurt in this area too.

One thing to keep in mind when driving at speed with the Diverter up is that steering can be compromised somewhat and the boat will not react the way you think it will. It is important to try driving it in different conditions until you get the feel. Especially with an area free of F-tards.

Hope this at least gives you some insight or at minimum, makes for more questions...

Its a devise meant to adjust plain. If your going to tow/pull skiers, have it down or down to a notch or 2 up out of the hole. If you have some chop/wakes or a slight porpoise while cruising, down will control most of that.  Moving it up at idle can help raise bow lightly revving engine to roll over an incoming wake. At high speeds adjusting the plain will help performance...you can feel the sweet spot. Having a shoe/plate will keep the overkill of adjustment for the vanity roost. As you push the handle all the way you take a risk of to much bow lift without a rideplate.

ok so I have hydro place ride plate in 18foot Tahiti  this is all what I was wondering so when ur seeing more chop lift the bow pd up n fartin around slow, down to plain quicker n cruz. I don't care(at least rt now  >:D) about vanity roost pd had two places to set hydro cylinder the one that would make higher roost I took it out and put in other spot cuz higher spot the cylinder wanted to hit the ride plate strut. is there times you don't want it up or down like going over wakes chop at high speeds..

The difference between the pd all the way up versus all the way down is the same as Ho hum versus hell yeah!

Best way to learn about what your place diverter does to the handling of your boat is to go out and just play with it.  Run it all the way up and all the way down, then find the sweet spot.  It's a seat of the pants thing.

Nice write up GT but for the simple minded folk...nozzle up, big rooster tail. Nozzle down, no rooster tail. Yay, look at my rooster tail bro I'm so cool lol.

The rooster for me is why I have a jet boat.guess I'm simple minded. I've owned several I/o and outboard so and none of them made me giggle as much as the jet with full roost

Sorry to thread jack for a minute, but I didn't want to go creating a new one when this is kind of related.

So my question is, how would one modify a berk jc diverter to get a little more up?
I've seen people notch the steering cable adapter, and say it's for the "full up" of the diverter. Or could you just adjust the cable on the handle side?

I have search but unable to find what I'm looking for...

The diverter is maxed out before the cable brackets contact one another, there's some grinding that can be done to get a few more degrees but honestly your better off just buying a split bowl and going that route with wedges, rooster boosters and drops with higher pin angles.

Yeah I was reading all about everything I can do with a split bowl, and there is a lot! I don't have any pictures of what it really does throw, I'm just going off what it looked like from the drivers seat and the fact that it is an old style diverter.

And well let's just says it's never good enough... Bigger and better! Muhahaha
