Title: El Capitan Sunday
Post by: flytime on July 06, 2007, 05:16:40 PM
Thinking about going to El Cap. Sunday. Never been.  How is it? How early should I get there? Is the water smooth and skiable in the AM? Anything I should know? Driving down from the OC

I've never waited more than 15 mins to get on and I've gone around 11am.  The water does get rough during the afternoon, but I see a lot of people skiing.  It calms back down after about 4 usually. Bring everything you will need cause it's a bit of a drive to get back to the nearest store.

Thanks Chaz. Anybody else have input? Anybody else feel like going? Taking Wanabe's family.

Sunday should be a good day to check out El Cap.  I believe the North Arm is open for watersports on Sunday, so it should offer much more area to ski in.  I was there a couple of weeks ago an towed skiiers mid-day and it was fine, not glass, but fine to ski.  In the AM you will have a blast, esp. up the arm.  It's $5 for your boat and $5 per person to enter the lake.  I usually get there later in the day and have never had a problem getting on.  It's a bit off the beaten track so anything you need you'll want to pack it with you (about 15 minutes once you turn past the am/pm.)   It's a fun local lake and the guys that work there are great.  You can hit them up for any questions once you get in.  An added bonus is that lake lice (jet skis) are forced to use a separate area.  I may go to El Cap or San V (just up the road from there) tomorrow.  If you see my boat feel free to stop on by.  Anyone else going to be there???

BTW, if you see Chaz, watch out for him.  Or better yet just stay away from his straightest line to shore (sorry Chaz couldn't pass that up.)

to post a pic.  upload it to the gallery (up above).  when it has uploaded right click to find the properties, copy the url.  there are  icons above the smiley faces and such when you reply to a message, one is "insert image" (to the right of the youtube icon)  paste the copied url from your pic  when you press the icon (between [img]url goes here[img] or something like that)   mess around with it... not to hard once you have the basics...

OK; off to ElCap in about an hour w flytime. Look for us (will have 6 on board: 3 adults; 3 children).

LC: we'll look for your boat if you're there instead of SVincent.

BJ: I'm sure your boat looks better than mine since mine still looks like this:
(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsocaljetboats.com%2Fcpg%2Falbums%2Fuserpics%2F10461%2FKona1.jpg&hash=20c65a963bb8942ed3ad8b957417e7c958d33b30)
But I got it running last weekend; have the carb off and apart now waiting for rebuid kit; hopefully next trip my boat will go along with flytime's boat (if he'll run his great lookin' boat next to mine  8))

But windy and choppy. The Wanabe's had a good time I hope. Everybody skiied. Even his 7 year old son skiied. Would like to try some other lakes around there too. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I'm sure. It was full (80 boats) on July 1st, had about 20 boats waiting to get on the lake when I left at around ? 1:30. marcsrollin was one of them waiting to get on the lake.

Thanks to flytime and that AWSOME boat of his (it not only looks good, it runs perfectly) we had a good day on El Cap; couldn't find much good water but didn't matter that much since haven't been on a ski in so many years; after knocking some rust off of myself with some unsuccessful starts, I got a good long run in (although a little choppy) until I gave out; my wife put me to shame by getting up a lot quicker than me (and it's been longer since she's skiied than me); as flytime said, my 7-year-old skiied the most on the trainers (1st time), my 15 and 12-year-olds tried for the 1st time and will likely be actually skiing the next outing (both were really close, especially the older).

beerjet: You don't owe me those boat sodas yet; once I get the carb rebuit and it runs steady, I'll have to get it in the water to see what shape the pump is in (hopefully that won't be the next rebuild). However, you did say you'll buy the first round of boat sodas (plural; don't try to downgrade that to "a drink" now  :P) if I get the boat in the water in any condition.
Flytime and I will probably do that on Hodges; will keep you posted.
