How many times have you had to use your intake cleanout?
« on: February 25, 2009, 04:54:28 PM »
Thought I'd ping the members and see how useful are they?

I've used mine 1X in 12 years. (OK so the boat has only ran 3 of those 12 ). Sucked a ski or anchor rope just like a noob. Mine is on the inside of the hull. Anybody use theirs on a regular basis?

Powdercoated my first one shut and you have to get to shore anyways so you dont flood the boat.
I'm more of a -get in up to your elbow- type of guy anyways  :-\

Back in about 85 on Xmas eve while watching the parade of lights from the water, we sucked up some kelp. So here we are in the dark, in the middle of the San Diego Bay and i'm having to pull that cover and grab as much kelp as I can, as fast as I can, as what seamed like the whole bay was draining into my boat. I think we had to pull it 3 times to clear it enough to get the pump to hook up. Ahh the memories.

Never.  I'd need another elbow in the middle of my forearm to get my hand in the cleanout.  ;D

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Did that out by Catalina one time, my step dad was a SEAL so he pulled out his mask and went swimming pulled it all out from underneath. I sucked up a bunch of tullies at the power tour and beached it on a sand bar and before I could, Marc reached up into the intake and pulled out what seemed like 50lbs of reeds lol. (Thanks again Marc!!!)
