Ok so here's the deal Daniel would never post something like this he is to proud but he is a good friend and a great guy so Fukk Daniel I'm going to post any way. Daniel bought a boat a couple years ago it was in pretty bad shape. Daniel did the gel coat, interior & motor all himself as he is a husband and new father and is on a limited income. He has about $6k into this boat. When he bought it he registered it in Ca as he was still living there. Now Daniel lives in Mohave valley AZ and goes to register it in AZ and finds out it has the same vin# as some other boat. Fishing game does a VIN verification for him and calls him a few weeks later (this last Saturday) and tell him they need to check the VIN again. Fish and game show up at his house on Sat and tell him the boat was stolen a year after the boat was new 20+ years ago. They only let him get life jackets and anchor out of the boat and take it away. Apparently Ca does not do back ground checks on boats but AZ does so keep this in mind when buying a boat in Ca. This thread is not about telling Daniel what he could have done different this is about getting my friend and our fellow boater back on the water. If you have or know of a hull, trailer, parts you can spare or at a smoking deal Pm Daniel or myself so we can help him get back on the water
Thanks in advance
Mark
PS Brad if Daniel sees this and calls you to delete it screw him leave it up he could use the help.

Any particular hull?

I am contacting some of my LE friends and insurance attorney friends to see what can be done to get his boat back. Like Mark, I am also in contact with Daniel. For those that don't know him, he is very humble and will go out of his way to help even a stranger. It sucks that this could happen to such a stand up guy. Now he knows he's not alone.

I have a question.
Where is the boat going? Is it to be returned to the victim of the theft? They have likely already been awarded a settlement. Or auctioned off by the insurance company? They have already written it off.
Not saying they should just allow it to stay where it is, but at the same time, Daniel is a victim too.
I will help in any way I can. Let me know how we come up short and I'll see what I can do?
I'm not rich, but I a lot of boat parts.

This happened to a friend of mine here in Idaho over a motorcycle. He hired a lawyer and had the bike back in a few weeks.
-
Has to be said...Damn Daniel!
Although the boat was stolen years ago, all the money and new parts belong to Daniel. He just got ripped off by fish and game! I hope he's able to recover the boat or at least his parts off it. I have a few things laying around that might help. Keep us updated!

I don't mean any offense but if Daniel had money for a lawyer I would have posted this thread. Glad for your buddy though.

It's in the possession of Fish & Game. They said they would keep him posted but most likely that it would be gone.

He meant no offense.
I was actually thinking the same thing.
A lawyer could cost very little compared to starting over.
What do you think the insurance Co. Is going to do with the boat? They don't want the damn thing.
I was in the business for many years, that boat will get auctioned off for pennies on the dollar.
I have personally bought approximately 15 boats this way.
No offense was intended by anyone.

He should really talk with someone in the legal field, He has a right to the part of the boat that he has prof of purchase for. He also has rights as a person that bought the boat with paper work. They have taken his property and he has a right to get it back. I truly hope thing work out for him but this is not the time to just accept this and move on.

I have a 18' 1978 challenger he can have. Has no trailer, rigging, pump, etc. I'll get pics tomorrow.
-
Also have a friend who wants to get rid of a 21' Tahiti because he needs the trailer for another project

Daniel needs to have a well known attorney in the area, draft a letter to F&G treating legal action for taking the boat and his personal property. If Daniel wants, ditto, to the person who sold him the boat as well. He should include the trailer also. My 2cents. Good luck friend!

Guys
I appreciate all your non professional opinions but like I said this in the beginning of this thread this in not about him getting a lawyer which he can't afford or telling him what he did wrong. This thread is simply about helping him get back on the water with spare parts you may know of. Trust me he is doing everything he can but most likely he won't get it back.

Mark,
We are working from the position that it is his boat and he should get it back. Talking with insurance attorneys and LE. But we still need to keep our fingers crossed. It may take a couple of weeks. I am meeting with an attorney this afternoon.
Bob
Ps. I will be out in a couple weeks. Beers on me!

Don't go taking it all wrong and getting your feelings all hurt (we're all grown men here) and turning this in to a shit thread. Like stated previously Daniel can't afford and attorney and is working with Law enforcement to do what ever possible. If your an attorney or Law enforcement please chime in. All I was saying is the thread was getting lost with every bodies opinions which I know everyone means the best. I am sorry if I offended anyone.

So here's the long story I bought off a fellow river neighbor and I had restored the hole thing any had around 7 to 8 thousand dollars in it. I had it registers it in Cali for a year with no issues and then when I went to register it in Arizona and had found out that it was stolen back in 99so they seized it. In my research I found that there were 2 boats mine being one of them made in 94 by kachina and they both had the same HIN # so after that confusion mine was the one with the corrected HIN. So the first thing I asked was if both the boats had the same number then how do they know they have the right boat? His answer was they were both stolen In 1999 and the other boat was recovers a while ago.So I thought that was funny and to many coincidences. So the. I found out that it was payed off by progressive so I got ahold of the person in charge with the claim and she treated me like I stole it in the first half of the conversation and then after she stopped being a bitch I told my story and she understood why I wanted the boat back even if I had to buy it back. So then 2 weeks go by and I've left countless voicemails and she finally calls me back and said that sense the boat was stolen so long ago that the claim was already written off and that she got the title signed over to this lady named aspen Sykes and she asked me if I knew who that was. I replied that's my wife and she said well then I guess your wife owns your boat so have a great day. So another week goes by because we had to wait for the game warden to be back in the office so we could sign papers and just like that we have our boat. So I can't everyone enough for the support but damn I'm glad it over and it's parked back at my house

That's awesome.
Pretty much exactly how that should have gone.
Congratulations brother.
Have fun.
Piece of advice though.
Make an ID card and write your name, address and the Vin number on it and laminate it in resin under the dash.
Not foolproof, but today's fool isn't all that sharp.
