How do I keep Cats out of my covered boat?

Is ther some kind of chemical or special sent that I can use to keep cats out of the boat I keep outside?

Other than Pellet gun or Pitbull I don't really know what to do. The cats around here just drink the antifreeze and come back for more.

Does anybody else have this problem? They tend to think new upholstery is a scratching post.

(humane and cheap) Cat trap Tru value hardware about (50 bucks) and then to the humane society Tom

Frikken cats hate boats dont understand it 80% of the boats we service smell like cat piss ,then when you take the to the lake overnite the coons piss on the cat piss ?

I have about 15 Feral cats that live on my street. They do like to crash on my boat..... I do keep it covered. They haven't peed on the boat but one of those bastards did spray my trailer tire. There really isn't much you can do. You could call a local cat rescue...... They may be able to help you trap them for relocation. When I bought this house six years ago, there was an old lady that lived next door that used to feed all the cats. At that time, there were about 35-40 strays running around and reproducing. I called a cat rescue and they came out and trapped about 15 cats the first night. They neuter and then realease them. Some of the cats were put down due to having Mange or other communicable diseases. If you feed them, they'll never leave. I have heard that if you put down some Cayenne pepper it will discourage them from going to that area but I've never tried this myself.
On another note, cats will control rodent and insect population. I have a friend that had a Rat living in her garage. It chewed through the wiring Harness on her Lexus SUV. Toyota warranties don't cover Rats chewing through your wiring so it was an expensive repair. Toyota Service suggested she get a cat.

Mothballs seem to be garuanteed to work however the cats aren't the only ones that will have to deal with the smell of the mothballs.

I do know that to keep insects/spiders out of anywhere put an open jar 1/2 full of Lysol where ever you don't want the insects. I've used it and it works great.

About fifty years ago I had the same problem with my sand box in the back yard. Dad strung some bare wire above the sand from wood stakes hammered in around the perimeter. Hooked the wires to a Model-T Ford Coil and that to motoerized rotating switch... on-off-on-off... Middle of the night we heard a short howl then nothing. Next morning we found a half dug hole, no cat, or ever again. Word got out in the cat population that Tommy's sand box was no place to "go". Don't call the ASPCA... too long ago to prosicute.

I cant stand animals in my boat. I use to store my boat in a freinds "barn" near Lake San Antonio. The first trip one year I found 2 dead birds and a bunch of piss all over my carpet. Needless to say, that was the last winter the boat stayed there.

BB gun works nice. one to two pumps with you basic 20 dollar walmart BB gun. one to two pumps should break the skin but will def get them running and thinking about coming back.

Tom are you sure that's a cat and not a possum? Heck if it's a cat put down a litter box and bye bye mice. If it's a possom you got problems as that is a young one and they make a heck of a mess. But, back to the cat, after it gets used to using the liter box, put the litter on the bottom of the cat trap. Not sure why they feel the need to play in cat litter but it works better than food for a cat.

Here's a little story about feline control....
When I was a kid, my pops used to raise game cocks. Every night the frickin neighborhood cats would raid the bird house and try to get to his prize birds. We called humane society for a trap, which they delivered to us, and asked us to bring in the cats whenever we caught them. We caught those fockers alright, every night we got one. Its just that in the mornings my dad used to stuff the cage into a garbage bag...cat and all....grab a roll of duct tape and tape that bag to the exhaust pipe of his El Camino. Start that bitch up and hold the pedal till that cat stopped jumping and screaming! For a couple years thats how I started my mornings before school almost every morning!

Had a really Mean Cat named Frosty , could litterally take down the kids when they were little , finally took him for a ride to Camp Roberts (deslolate frikken place ) one morning to have him help control the Coyote population
