Title: Gas Mileage
Post by: riverfred on April 12, 2011, 06:03:35 PM: I have a 2002 21' Carrera, open bow with a stock 454, Holly dual carb pumper and berkley 12JG pump. I just figured out I am getting around 2 miles per gallon (Needles to Pirate Cove approx. 10+ miles using around 5+ gallons one way) This does not seem right as my first boat was a 78 19' Rogers with the same set-up and it got much better gas mileage. What are your thoughts?

Hey I cruise it at 3500 90 % of the time! I just like to buz the bars as I pass them to get some heads to turn ;D

Hey sorry for the thread jack but I think I saw this boat for sale in Lake Havasu on the side of the highway a couple of weeks ago minus the motor

yeah, propless sold it to a guy in that area. Before propless owned it, it used to have a blown injected motor in it and did some serious speed.....120+ range if i remember correctly.

No. no, no, NO!!! I ain't buying it!

But I CAN tell you the mileage in these little hot rod squirt guns is well south of good.

2-3 is pretty good, really, I'm in Nick's category at slightly over one if I kept my foot under control. Not an easy thing. I remember burning off one tank in Moo, 14 gallons, and the good part of another, on a blast from Pirates Cove to the Avi....... Pickle is no better, really, even with a very docile 454 and single carb....... 1/2 mile to a gallon is not unacheiveable.

That sounds bad...........who's all FOR Global Warming???

Ralph's right, not to mention that the Rogers was probably 1/2 the weight of your new boat.

Post by: iloveitloud on April 13, 2011, 07:24:47 PM: My "warmed over" 454 in my 20'BAJA gets less than 2 mpg cruzing at 3500 rpm's. If I run it hard, I can actually see the gas gauge go down. It seems pretty bad, but my 17' Rinker 170 Captiva with a 120 Johnson O.B. only got about 3-3 1/2 mpg cruzing at the same speed, and it weighed 1000 pounds less.
