Hey guys.....19' hallett bubble deck with over the transom headers. My wife and kids have a hard time getting in the boat from deep water. The kids are easy...I just yank them up. The wife is a little different. She doesn't have the upper body strength to push herself up. I was thinking of making a rope step that hooks on the underside of the gunnel.
Before I go out and reinvent the wheel, what is everyone else doing?

Pull the boat to sallow water get them in then push the boat out and jump in that works for me

It is certainly a common problem. Now this is not going to get high marks on technique or grace but I've found that if your wife can get one leg thrown up on the side, and someone can hold it firmly enough so as to not slip back into the water, the wife should be able to be "hauled in" like a big fish. She will have to swallow her dignity a bit, but it can be accomplished. Ladders never worked well for us. A swim step on the back is nice but with your headers that isn't really an option.
Have I mentioned how much I dislike OT's? Rope melting, flesh charring, high maintenance Mo Fo's. But that's just me. >:D

The technique we used is, the person in the water (wearing a vest) positions themself midship with their back to the gunwale. The person in the boat grabs the vest above the shoulder and pulls until the person in the water is sitting on the gunwale. As the person in the water is lifted higher, he/she can assist the lift lift by placing their hands on the gunwale and pushing until in the seated position.
Buoyancy goes a long way in assisting the lift, so you can lift a relatively large person that you would not otherwise be able to lift on dry land.
I always keep a hand on the person to stabilize them while they rotate and enter the boat.
I am really not a fan of attaching anything to the side of the boat.

I am even more hillbilly (no offense to the hillbillies lol).
I use an old double handled ski rope on the side of the boat, I have cleats inside the boat that I loop a single handle to and use it like a stirrup, makes you look like a boss... LMAO

You can use an old ski rope handle on the bow eye, you just stand up lean forward and fall on the deck.

Pretty much what I was thinking GT. but I was gonna do a two step system with some 3/4" sch40 PVC and have a couple hooks on the gunnel. Something like that. Maybe throw some type of hand hold too.
I mentioned switching to a day cruiser but the wife likes our boat (and so do it).
Everyone knows never to touch the pipes or motor even if it been sitting in the garage for 3 months...hands off. As for burnt ski rope not problems there. I have small length of some fire hose i use. Leaving from shore is no issue. Just when water skiing.
I'll update the thread later when I build the damn thing.

If they arnt children and cant get in the boat by themselfs tlunassisted then well.....they cant ride in it. Leave them at home.

Part of the decision to sell the bubbledeck and buy the Advantage came from the fact that people had a hard time getting in the boat especially if we're out floating.
