Probably don't want to go to Perris right now. The water is waaay down to repair the dam. There is much more 5mph zone than the rest of the lake. I might be going out to Elsie on Sunday but not sure yet. I'll keep ya in mind.

id definately stay away from perris. took my boat there a couple of months ago and the water turned the whole side black :o hit elsinore. i launch out of the west marina. there pretty cool people over there. its on riverside dr. towards the north west side of the lake.

Ditto on Elsinore Marina.  Look for big white wall directly across from Lake High School (I think). It is just about the last thing before you make the big left sweeper which will have you running along the Ortega mtns and the backside of the lake. The earlier you get there the better you will like it. Before 6am is NOT too early. Be careful not to back truck in more than necessary as ramp is VERY slick. At the opposite end of the lake is a small cove where all the bikinis n boat sodas take place. Just do as the ramp nazis tell you to and all will be cool, these guys have no tolerance for anyone who doesn't get with their "system" at the ramp.
Oh yeah - DON'T DRINK THE WATER.
Title: How 'bout LAKE HODGES
Post by: wanabe on July 19, 2007, 11:02:51 PM
Join us at Lake Hodges; it's easy to get to from OC and from what we've read, etc, it should be better than Perris/Elsinore (if you're not getting in the water; which we're not on this trip):
http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php/topic,833.new.html#new (http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php/topic,833.new.html#new)

Hodges Reservoir
http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/hodges.shtml (http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/hodges.shtml)
From what I understand, it's only $5 per boat (no per person charge).

From what I've been reading El Capitan doesn't allow swimming/body contact.  San Vicente is the only lake that offers boating and water contact.  Is San Vicente over-run with lake lice or wake boarders?  Why El Capitan?

Obviously I haven't been to either one and would like to find a place better than Elsinore/Parris to take the boat without having to drive to the river, and Mentone Beach just doesn't cut it  ;D

What's up with the road to Apache? Potholes, steep. dirt road?  ???

...

I don't know much about San Vincente, but what I do know is the road that goes to it is very narrow and very steep. It is paved. marcsrollin's truck needed 4 low pulling his boat up that hill. There's no way in hell my truck (V6, stock gears, 35" tires) would make it up that hill pulling a boat unless I hit the bottom of it with a 25 mph head start and didn't meet anyone on the way up.   :D

El Cap is bigger than San Vincente, lake lice stay in their marked area - most of the time, and TheChaz didn't get a ticket for his water contact, drunk in public, BUI, DUI, or anything else he did that one special day.  ;)

That's not right; El Cap and SV both allow body contact (only 2 in SD I think); limited days however so check websites; we were at El Cap a couple weeks back skiing.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part. You're right, water contact is allowed on certain days like you said. You can call a phone number... uhhh.... something something something - FISH. LMFAO. maybe go to...

www.sdfish.com has a listing for the lakes in SanDiego County.

... and they'll tell you what days you can have water contact.  ;)

dirt road, narrow, less than 2 lanes in spots, washboarded, steep on one side, drop off on the other, no guard rail, the list goes on, and this is coming in from the good side, the bad side you can barely squeeze two vehicles past eachother and god forbid one is a motorhome, one side goes up very steep and the other has up to 350' drop off, only quard rails are about 1.5' tall and built up with dirt, so they are more like a jump :), lake is very much worth the drive though

i ended up going to perris, the girls wanted to go to the island to have a picnick, just wanted to get it wet, and try it out , boat ran great. i ran it @ home saturday for about 20 mins , no oil leaks on any thing, rev'd it up to 5k nice and smooth, im used to my old boat, this boat seems heavier, and slower...thats just how it felt, i didnt think my olds made that much power but its definatly much faster.. the boat rode in the water good, not a rough ride at all, cut through the water nice, i played with the diverter to see how the boat reacted, that was cool, the motor seemd like it had more to go but didnt want to push it too hard, like i drive my olds, i gotta look if im getting full throttle, and things like that got to check the timing make sure its where it needs to be...i gotta get ralph's number and have him come over and check it make sure its cool....i should a made the trip to hodges, and drove around with you guys to give me some feedback.the floor panel on lt side under the drivers seat seemed loose too, was tripping me out , the wood floor is nice and ridged but when cruising it moved around alittle....???? dont know......so im shopping for a twin turbo set up for the 460....anybody got one for sale???

Gonna have to put ALOT of power in that boat to make it act like an 18ft tunnel. I Have the same hull and it just aint gonna be a fast boat unless you got big dollars to spend. Love my boat but she runs around 57 and thats all I can get her to do.

Its a shitbox very primative road that has more potholes then grandma's front yard and beats the piss outta everything but the lake is the nicest lake you'll ever go to...It's got a nice hotel and bar and the road keeps the size of boats down...More on the road...It's got more 90's in it then then a race track and has a long steep one lane dirt pothole hill thats a shear cliff on one side...I've been down that road over 100 times and cussed that road with every word imaginable but once ya get on the lake it is worth every mile...And jet and V-drive's are EVERYWHERE! ;D

4X4? I tried towing my old 21.5 ft bayliner outta there with my old '94 shortbed 2 wheel drive and got half way up the hill from the marina and my truck stopped...Back tires started to spin and the boat was towing ME back down the F'n hill! Talk about shattin' my pants! :o The back tire of the trailer hit the little grader hill along side the road and stopped me...Got my friend's old 4x4 blazer and towed it out...Ain't doin' that again! ;D

if you go in through roosevelt lake and over the dam the road is not steep, just a lot of switch backs, still narrow and rough but i used to pull my flatty out there in a lowered chevy 2x4, just had to go real slow

We'll catch up next time.
