Title: Got a question about a FORD motor!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
Post by: surf on March 01, 2007, 06:44:08 AM
I just bought a 77' OMEGA with a ford 460. The guy i got it from had the pump gone through in 96' with a new 460 was put in. He ran it 3 times then let it set.  I took the heads off last night and found rust in one of the cylinders which is stopping the engine from turning over by hand but it flakes off when i scratch it off with my finger nails.  can i get away with putting each piston down and hone each cylinder or do i need to pull the engine and rebuild it.  PLEASE HELP.

Oh no that engine must be totally gone through. You just never know at this point what you may find. That is truely an engine question not a Ford question.

if you hone it with the pistons pushed down where is the debris going to end up??? that being said as for the bearings you will have to inspect for damage but i doubt it as long as there was oil when it was stored. BUT inspect all parts first. jmho
