After a long day of boating near parker dam, a trip up thru the channel and back, etc... I decided late night that I wanted to take a night run down thru parker. It was a full moon and you could see EVERYTHING. i put in at river island and headed all the way down to the casino and back. put the trailer into the water and proceeded to put the boat on... couldnt get it on and came up about 3 feet short. tried a different spot on the ramp, even worse. tried again and nope... even worse. in the hour that it took us to go there and back the water level had dropped about 3 feet according to the launch ramp line where it was wet. we were STUCK.
hopped back in the boat and went back down river to find another launch ramp. found buckskin and it had a fairly steep ramp. luckily i found park ranger who was SOOOO helpful in actually giving me a ride back to the truck while the wife held the boat. ended up getting it out after about 2 hours and by then it was 2am.
I was surprised how many boats were on the water that late. At around midnight most of the bars were packed and there mustve been at least 20-30 boats still on the water. However it was still PURE MIRROR GLASS. smoothness ive never felt before, it felt like i was driving on a cloud. i LOVED IT.

Nice I have never been out on a night run but sounds like fun I guess if its a full moon and situation is right meaning haven't had too much moonshine ill take her for a ride when we are in parker the 19th

From what I understand is the water levels drop significantly on the upper stretch of the parker strip at night. They stay consistent on the lower 1/2....so maybe in the future launch/retrieve somewhere further south would be the best advice i could give ya.

Ok, I'll bite. How does this work? With a dam at each end how can you lower the water at one end only?

Brads statement confused me as well.

The park ranger told me that the dam closes the same amount each night but the level fluctuates based on bow much irrigation water gets pulled from the river. Apparently there are some thirsty plants out there...

Half or so of the Parker strip is a lake...Lake Moovalya
From the river miles index of the Colorado river:
"(mile)177.9 Headgate Rock Dam- Earthfill section (R)
(Reservoir is Lake Moovalya. Considerable

Parker Dam.)"
Parker dam is at river mile 192.2
All of the water flow is based on irrigation and power demand. And it flows from Parker Dam south to Headgate rock Dam

Almost like how havasu doesn't fluctuate and laughlin/needless is up and down... Same body of water, it just works like that.

Moon rides on the strip are awesome. The best ones are when the little woman likes being naked >:D
Those of us who have spent years there know night time is not the time to try and take your boat out. Mine goes in the water when I get there and comes out when I'm leaving. Makes night rides much more appealing.
Be safe and keep it below plane speed. Among those who don't cause several deaths every year and it's usually the passengers who get thrown into the rocks.[attachimg=1]
