new headers
« on: June 03, 2013, 09:11:37 AM »
I just bought a pretty new set of basset headers for my boat. I am wondering if there are any tricks to keeping them looking brand new.

Hang them in the garage and forget about ever putting them on the boat.

Well it helps if the engine is tuned right, not to lean, get the water supply to the headers dead nuts on and try to keep them clean of grease, oil, and the oils from your hand when working on it. The second they get hot and any of the above or on them it will burn on and most important don't touch them when there hot.

I've been told to spray with WD40 before storage and clean with windex before use.

I always clean mine with windex before and after use. You can always guarantee I will have a bottle of windex with me at all times with some microfiber rags.

Whatever you do, if you break a rocker arm, don't idle back to the lagoon, in fact try and run at idle as little as possible since you can't run water through the headers at idle...le'sigh
