Post by: OpposedOdie on March 03, 2013, 07:23:58 AM
Hi all, New to Site , I leave on Monday for an 800 mile trip to pick up my first flat bottom boat and bring it back to southern Idaho for some fun. I am going to Southern Cal to pick it up, I am not sure what make it is , I got it unseen and hope it is in as good as shape as in the Pic's. All i know is that is says Special Edition on the valve cover something of 60 built. I will try and post some Pics from the road trip when I get it ....

I can't really tell much from that one pic, but it does look different from any hull I am familiar with.  But that ain't sayin' much.  Maybe Beerjet will chime in, he seems to be a wealth of semi-useless old boat knowledge.  I am only 15 minutes away if you need any help when you get here.  I would NOT be the one to reliably assess the seaworthiness of a boat, but if you want some restaurant/ recommendations while you're here, then I''m your guy.
I bought both of my boats, hours away from home, and without any kind of water test.  One turned out fine, the other not so much.  Berdoo is within an hour of Elsinore, Perris, Silverwood, and Puddingstone.  I think I would insist on getting her wet if I was coming from Idaho.  Trailer needs a good inspection too if you are gonna tow it all the way back home.  Just sayin'  .  .  .

Somebody please tell me what I am looking at hanging off that nozzle?
Hard to tell, is the rub rail missing?

Ya it is missing, that's one of the things i have to replace. Glade that i was a rigger for a boat company back east ...

Looks like a Rayson Craft. Glasscutter, the funky thing hanging off the nozzle is the chute for the reverse thrust. Because it is a flatly the pump is higher up in the transom, so they have to drop the bucket down to get reverse to work.

cool looking boat  :)  i took the same leap of faith 3yrs ago. 1300 miles / 3 days / 1 International border / sight unseen. Met the owner in a dark storage lot, late at night and handed him twice what u spent.....worth every penny!!      cheap advice;  when you meet, if you don't trust him, don't trust the boat... cheers
