Water coming out of the back of the boat

When i was at Lake Elsinore I noticed that a few boats had water coming out of the back of them while they were running. When they would rev the motor the stream of water would go farther. I was curious what that is for? my boat doesnt do that and there is no hole in the transome for water to come out. i think that is has something to do with the motor and the building pressure in the water pump area. I have no clue but it has been bugging me ever since i have seen it. i have looked on youtube and seen a few boats that do it. Any explination would be great and put my mind at ease.

Are you running log exhaust on your boat?

Well the water dump for the cooling or the water mixing in the headers will steam.Maybe it was the afterburners kicking in.

i have thru the transome headers with logs and snails. i know what the steam is from, im not that retarded, just a little bit. i guess what my main question should have been, is that something that i need to look into doing to my boat? or is it only for big H.P motors and motors that are not equipped with wet headers?

My guess is they have a pressure relief valve that dumps the extra water overboard to keep the engine water pressure steady and low.

Boats with 4 tube water injected headers (thru or over transom) require overboard dump of engine water NOT used to inject/cool the headers .
Boats with Center rize or wet log style exaust (over transom or thru hull very occasionally end up with overboard dumps for "pressure relief purposes" this is tricky to plumb and adjustment critical (to keep exaust hoses cool) and not usually neccesary IMO Tom
