I have had one terrible week this week.
I was going to go to Burley Idaho this W/E but life just keeps kicking me in the face. :thumbdown:
I get a call on Thursday morning and asked if I can show up to the shop for a special called meeting. "Sure I can" I'm thinking.... :screwy:
So they announce that there have been 16 layoffs, with more to happen later (meaning Monday) This company did what they had to do, but the timing was bad, the way they determined who went sucked, and in all honesty, took a pretty bad company morale and made it ten times worse....
The problem is, these peoples workloads don't just vanish....the remaining people have to "step up to the plate" and make things happen, even though they could not get everything done before the layoffs. including myself, things are going to get pretty tuff.....
I had lunch with some of the people I directly work with, they feel stuck, if only I had a way to make their life better. :mad:
Any way, how do you cope with something of this magnatude? I still have a job, but it just became way more difficult, I really like the people I work for, but I need out. I have an offer on the table and will probably take it, but I feel like I'm letting several people down. :-\
I will have to leave about 6 people hanging in the balance if I leave, but thinking 6 months into the future, I will have a hard time keeping my bills payed if things keep going the way they are.

Not much you can do about your coworkers that got the axe, as for you, here is my prescription;
1. Gas up truck and boat
2. Procure adult beverages and ice
3. Head North on 101 to the 12
4. Head East on the 12 to Isleton
5. Launch the boat and crack a bottle
Repeat as needed

I like it! two problems...I needed to work this morning, and I would have to go it alone, my family is fostering three little 3 week old kittens for the animal shelter..... :banghead:
Oh well, next W/E is the 4th, get an extra day off :thumbup:

What i do is go home get on the puter and tell lie's to everyone who will listen.....
you know like, I have a boat that runs ;D
but seriously, it sucks big time and if you can move on to better yourself, or make life a little easier for you and the family do it.......
I know i would in a heartbeat :sly:

Hookers n blow can cure a lot! Anyhow I just had to go through the same type of dealio and the move was a lot easier then I thought...I went around and said goodbye to everyone I wanted to got my tools and walked to my truck!

Sometimes you just have to look out for number 1 and number 1's family! You can't make everyone happy! So you might as well make yourself happy!

I know I need to make sure I'm taken care of, I also know that these people are very good at what they do and will be OK, just wish I were in a position to be the hero. It's nice to win once in a while. :-\
I have pretty much already taken the new position, just need to figure out the logistics. My biggest problem is everything I said would happen, has. Not trying to make myself out to be all knowing, but the writing was on the wall and no one did a thing.
I think my new position will allow me to take more time for myself, right now, with the economy being what it is, most of my time is spent trying to keep others busy, the place where I am going has a support system for doing just that. Besides, most of my old co-workers and freinds are already there, so really wont be too strange.

All these guys are right, Glenn. You have to take care of yourself, your family, and your sanity first and foremost. I am the KING of fighting battles I shouldn't have for people that work for me. I always won, but sometimes you win the battle and lose the war. That has happened on a couple of occassions.
In these economic times, that is even more paramount! And it goes right up the corporate food chain. There's Noone gonna stick their neck out for nobody at Shearson Lehman, etc. on wall street. Everyone is afraid. This, globally, I beleive, could, and prolly will, be worse than the great depression before it's over. (Sorry for the doom and gloom guys, but I call what I see being direct on the retail front, and that is the first indicator. If nothing gets sold, no need to ship it, store it, manufacture it, or mine materials to even make it, just what I see). Retail ain't bouncing back, it's getting worse, exponentially.
"Coping" on this stuff is easy for me, but I'm quite a bit jaded. This is nothing to me, so I'm the wrong guy to ask. I am probably the most casual observer of it all going down, however. And I can ONLY afford do that because of the tragedy in my life. Best I can do is take advantage as best I can and invest in the future growth that will surely come. Boats are not the only thing I am into, but that's not important here.
You're gonna be ok Glenn. You're doing the right thing and putting your family first, and that's what is important!

now i like this idea :thumbup: but not sure it would fix anything.
