I'm Getting a New Truck!
« on: April 25, 2008, 11:49:41 AM »
My wife will be signing the papers on a new Dodge Mega Cab 4x4 in about an hour. Its an 07 that has every option except Nav/DVD for 12K off MSRP!!!  Kinda sad to get out of my old Dodge but my kids are outgrowing the back of my Quad Cab   and can't keep their handss off each other.
Leaving SoCal for JBP tomorrow morning and boating up there all weekend.  Life is good . . .

Anybody want a 96 Qcab?  Runs great, looks great, for sale cheap.

Let me first say that I don't buy many vehicles.  I drive them at least 10 years/200K.   So I just get off the phone with AAA and we have been adding, modifying, estimating,  my insurance for the the new/old trucks and cars.  The big number I heard was the first one where she said it was gonna be $2400+   :o    That's  a crazy number but it is the first 4x4 that I have had since 1984.   So I start trying to get the girl on the phone to save me some $$$ somewhere somehow but it is clear there isn't much she can do.  Less than $20 diff between a $250 and $1000 deductible for comp.
Long story short come to find out that she keeps giving me a number that reflects coverage for ALL THREE vehicles NOT just the new sled like I had thought.

I'll drink to that right now !   8)

Hey lemmee tell ya this.....I also just bought a "newer" truck and am also insured with AAA....I got the new policy and they told me it was going to be $1600 a year...For just me,my 2003 F-150 and a perfect driving record! ;D I thouht tha was bit steep (ludicrous),so I checked out Mercury...The same exact policy (coverage) from them is goingto be about $890  year.I did some research on Mercury with some friends and they all said that they have had very ood experience with Mercury...Can ya guess who I have nsurane with now???  ::)  ??? Thanks for looking out.   I like their other services a lot but I will certainly re-evaluate soon.  Eight years ago when I wanted to insure my truck then no one could touch them, but lately I have been less than thrilled with them.  Regardless insurance on vehicles is something you can't do without. Thanks again, your example seems to indicate there are better rates out there.

Also look into Wawanesa and Amica. They're both really good companies geared towards people with good driving records and no claims history. They save advertisement money and pass on savings to you. Was with Amica for a while but had fender bender (forgot to set brake and 94 stang rolled into minivan bumper at post office. minor dimple in plastic bumper cover and owner found body shop to run up $700 estimate!!!) and speeding ticket in one month, had to get cheapo insurance to survive rate increase. Wawanesa was who body shop manager recommended since they always paid claims fast and refused to pay for non-oe parts!

Not trying to bite the hand that feeds me, but  >:D  I repair cars for insurance companies for a living. To qoute Ralph, "cheap isn't good and good isn't cheap" and that definately rings true with insurance companies most of the time.

My XBPW got in a major car wreck when she was 7 months pregnent with our son, not her fault, and Mercury took forever to pay and just nickled and dimed us to death and gave us major headaches and grief throughout the entire ordeal. Later, XBPW totaled the Tacoma, again, and Mercury was crap for coverage and tried for a long time to use aftermaerket China type parts for the repair.

Most insurance companies will not pay for aftermarmet accesories (sp?) unless you allow the ins. co. to inspect your vehicle, show them reciepts, have a rider added to the policy before any of it is stolen or damaged. Then when it is damaged you will usually have to provide them with the reciept again.

AAA is an outstanding comapny. USAA (military and their family's) is the best. State Farm is pretty good also unless you piss them off and make an unrealistic comprehensive claim - do not do that with State Farm. Farmer's seems like good coverage and service but they're real picky about the aftermarket stuff they replace.

Lastly, most car insurance companies will not cover a loss that isn't bolted to the car. i.e.: subwoofer boxes, satelite radio's, cell phones, laptops, expensive shades (unless they're corrective), etc... IMO

when I said non-oe parts, I meant cheapo fenders and other crappy aftermarket stock replacement parts. Wawanesa would replace anything that was on the car if it was on there when they inspected it. Had to drive to San Diego for inspection though.

That's insane. You had to drive from Yuma to San Diego so they could look at your vehicle in order for them to cover your loss?

That's why I ended up going with Amica. But the price difference was worth the gas, just would have had to take a day off work to go get it done. They have changed by now, but that was their policy back then to inspect every vehicle before they would insure you.

We could have had different experiences for any number of reasons. Maybe my ex repeatedly totaly vehicles had something to do with it, maybe her insanity had something to do with it, could be any number of reasons.  :D
