Title: I dont get it... can you even sit in this thing?
Post by: ka0tyk on August 28, 2013, 09:48:30 PM
I scour craigslist going thru boats and I find this all too often.  21 foot boat.   back seat that is completely useless.  why do people do this?

i fully get what your saying!    and agree with you!  but your looking at it the wrong way. how many times have you sat in the back seat of your boat???  Cause me personally , when in the water my boat is MY BOAT. I have a hard time letting someone i know drive it, but theres no way i am going to sit in the back seat.

i get it, but with that mentality why even put a back seat in it at all?  why not just slap 2 buckets in it and call it a day?  upholstery aint cheap!  and with only 2 seats you'd never have to cart anyone else around.  because even with that little space your passengers are gonna take one look and make this face:

but hey theres a ski locker!

The major problem with that is space when redo it interior. For some reason everyone wants to have that full back like all the new boats, but the interior spacing is not set up the same. So in the end this is what you get...

ya but if it is just you the wife and a kid the full back seat works much better. cause now you have two storage compartments for toys chairs and all the other stuff. If you are constantly taking a group of adults with you then your set up works fine. But if it is usually you and your girl the other way is MUCH better. Plus you have a full rear deck to lay out on, storage, and if need be you can still fit some people in the back

i converted my Mini to the full bench and it was awesome.. I put a memory foam top across the whole back. it was the best for the booze cruise.

dont knock it. Just cause you dont like it doesnt mean someone else doesnt love it. LOL.. to each their own. thats why boats are cool you can do what ever fits how you use it.

curious why you didnt make it a walk through?  I'd hit my head once and take a chainsaw down the middle...

im eventually going to make mine an open bow.  as much as i dont like the way it looks, its super functional and boat resale seems to be higher for them.

I don't have much more space then that in my boat, but it's absolutely perfect for the midgets and a 24 pack AO cooler fits like it was made to be between the bucket and bench. Have managed to fit 2 full size dudes in the back (don't ask) and everyone was comfy enough for a trip around the lake. It works for being a 18ft. boat.

Surprisingly, this is the best pic I have to show how much room there is lol.

you have a ton more room in yours if u can fit a 24 pack.  thats all that really matters is that the beer fits in the boat.  the one in my original post they'd have to get the slim cans... or those coronitas that are smaller.

nice pix.  looks like fun to me!

Yea, my boat DID. Apparently someone put an interior in my 18' boat that was from a 21' boat - looked great, till you tried to sit in it. Before I FIXED it, I couldn't even get under the steering wheel - now NO back seat.

I like why you got going there. I wanted to do something very similar by keeping the complete dash. Did you do that yourself.
Has anyone done this type of mod?
Let me know

I was told by the previous owner that a shop in Elsinore did the conversion, not sure which decade the work was done...the interior color is a little off , but i have had the openbow tub out and everything is solid

It's funny to see all the 20'+ cruiser guys complain about space. My little 18 has quite a bit of room I guess, I'm able to get a 24pack cooler inbetween the seats in front of the motor and 4 200+ pound 6'+ guys in comfortably. And chromy that is a nice setup

I don't know how all you with 18 footers do it. I have just enough space in my mini day, I wouldn't know where to start with an 18 footer. But then again, I mostly got the mini because of the dog house. I wish I would have looked a little more and found one with jump seats in the rear. Other than that I enjoy the set up and storage in my boat.

**not knocking any one way, just poking out what I see... I would love to have a two seater with a huge blown 502! But it's just not practical for me and what my family and I need. Haha

There'd be plenty of room if you hung a wacker off the back... Probably be faster too.

kinda funny.  so i poke fun at this bahner and then this weekend i see it parked outside the gas station in parker.  it looked even smaller in person.  beat up, rode hard and put away wet.  they couldnt even clean the inside and just left a bunch of crap all over everywhere.  life jackets, trash, etc.  and they were asking $6500 for it.  pfft good luck!

You should clean it and re-rig for them.
