Look at the autotrader online.  I just found a bunch of 3/4 and 1 tons for cheap.  A 97 with the gasser shouldnt be 6500.

Almost forgot to say that the 460's that came in the 90's trucks are dogs.  I know, I used to have a 96.

For what its worth I just gave away my truck yesterday.  It sat in front of my house for a year with only one guy ever interested in it, and he never came back with cash, he would just check in every month or so to tell me he was still interested.
So I come out Friday and there is a note on the windshield.  I call the guy and he says he only has $1500 to spend.  Then I tell him it is on Non-Op and has a dead battery and he says $1300.  He shows yesterday and we can't get it to stay running I'm guessing because the battery is so dead (it wouldn't idle a few weeks ago even after being on the charger all night).   It had a broken driver's seat but I had a replacement ready to install.  96 Dodge Xcab 2500 with 220,000 miles.
I let him have it for $1000.   :banghead:

Gotta pay IRS somehow.   I have owed 'em 3x that for nearly 2 years.

that should be the 460 engine. They are good engines and have alot of HP and torque, and hey, look on the bright side, if the engine in ur truck ever went out you could use one from a boat :-D

The 460 is only 220 hp but they are bulletproof.  Ford chokes these motors down.  You could always put headers and other things on it.  Go with the diesel, you would be much happier.  My new F-150 would outpull my 96 F-350 with the same load.

According to jet chips, the 460 only has 197 hp on a dyno.

Had a 1997' F250 with the 460. Good truck and took loads of abuse. Company vehicle and was used most of its life as a farm vehicle. Not serviced regular and driven hard had over 200K.

Like my current diesels, just because drive large distances Seattle to LA. More of a driving range distance when hauling preference, over toughness!
