I'm gunna start watching my gas levels a bit closer now......and if I have to, I will run an extension chord out to the truck and set up my laptop with a webcam that will kick off on motion detection....

I know times are tough and gas prices are high...but stealing gas is pretty low.

Really screw them , start running the E-85 in your truck. If they don't have a flex fuel vehicle , it will eat all there rubber hoses.

I thought there is a stop in tanks to stop people from being able to do that anymore

true...

from what I have been told, though may not be true, is that that the price per gallon vs mile per gallon vs octane is equal to buying gas at the cost of 87 octane with the benefits of running 91 octane.

I aint no tree huggin hippy, but i'd run it if it was locally available.

If someone wants gas bad enough they don't run a hose down the fill neck, they cut the filler hose from below and run a hose into the tank.
If you go to add fuel and it pours on the gound you've been hit  >:D

i was gunna stash the lappy under the back seat out of view....but turns out its too dark for the web cam i have.

i set the position on the gas cap and will check if its changed in the morning....and will continue to watch that and my fuel levels. if anything becomes astray, i will invest in a infrared security camera and get this focker on tape and take it to the cops. If I just buy a locking gas cap will divert him to steeling someone elses gas.

brad, i have a chevrolet, first when the truck sits the levelers in the tank at a quarter will change and then the low fuel chime will start thinking some piece of work stole the gas, that isnt going to happen maybe Woman used the truck, prob. not it is a chevrolet i thought the same thing, next the new chev flex fuel is a fukin joke the gas cost less but you lose about 20-30 percent of fuel mileage so if you get 18 miles on fuel thus you get 14-15 with flex which they didnt tell you that this in formation is from a GM exec. bythe time you drive 500miles it cost more to use flex fuel in the long run, my quest is that by big eliminator has about 80-100 gallons in belly tank is the fuel still good and how long it has been there since July/Aug should i pump it out and use it or will it stilll be good in June any body let me know thanks h2oicon

All PD's are different, especially county to county. But down here in SD County, there must be at least 5 cars broken into/vandalized in the same parking lot before the cops will even consider showing up. I don't believe it's a written rule, it's just what my experiences have taught me in the last 20 years of my work. The ONLY time I've seen the police show up with one car having been vandalized is when the owner of the vehicle knew the right person/people (excluding vehicles equipped with LoJack). I've even been complained to about the police not showing up by a police officer that had his Camaro broken into. I've been told stories of thief's breaking into a downstairs garage while the occupents were sleeping upstairs, the thief(s) stealing the MB out of the garage, and the police not showing up (police report done over the phone). I've repaired a judge's vehicle and the police did not show up when he filed the police report.

In the grand scheme of things, police officers have a lot more to worry about than some gas being stolen/researching a video in trying to figure out who stole the gas.

As far as you or anyone else on this board dealing with the thief(s), I highly don't recomend it. All of you macho types feel free to have someone else kill you over $15 of gas or a $200 stereo. The kind of person that is stealing your gas/stereo/vehicle etc doesn't give a rats asss about you and chances are that he or she is packing a weapon of some sort and does not care if he or she has to use it. It is not uncommon in SoCal for someone to die in trying to stop a thief.

1 car or 20 cars....I think the cops will respond when I have hard evidence such as video of someone in the complex steeling their neighbors gas. (IF someone is jackin my gas) Do you think they are going to tell me to deal with it and its not their problem until more people complain about it? youre a retard.  ::)

I never said I was going to do anything "Macho" and confront this guy.....so you can take that "All of you macho types" comment back.   ::)

...back to your statement about the cops "not showing up"... you do insurance claim repairs, right? those people have to file police reports in order to file a claim with the insurance company, right? explain to me how those police reports are made.  ::)

Thanks for the lecture.  :-*

I would pump the fuel out, it will go bad. Every time I store my boat for more than two weeks I pull the fuel out. But I live in Hell and it is usually over 100* and that kills fuel. But the amout of time that you are storing yours the fuel will go bad. Now if it was Av Gas you could leave it in quite a bit long with no wories, I can't remember but something the FAA mandates. If you disconect the line going to the pump that comes in from the belly tank and extend it through the drain plug hole you can get the fuel out fairly safe. remember to do this in a well vented area. I sometimes have had to use about 20lbs of compressed air into the fill to help start the prosses.

h2oicon,

I've been told that fuel looses about 1 octane rating per month in a sealed container.  After nearly a year your 92 octane fuel could be 80.  Take the boat out and use the fuel thats in it or pump it out (using the boat sound like more fun)   ;D

I don't know WTF your problem is, why you are so flockin defensive when it comes to me.  ???  You tell others to not call each other names yet you are calling me a retard when you don't even know WTF you're talking about.  ???  I think you're just waiting for me to lash out back at you so you can remove me from the board again. Whatever, I am a very patient person.

Yes, I think the police are going to tell you to deal with it even if you have a clear video "facial shot" of the theif.

I have read several times on this board about people wanting to confront thief's with their weapon of choice in hand and I do not recomend anyone doing that. Not even you Brad.   ???  Honest people die all of the time trying to stop a thief.

99.9% of the police reports filed in SD County relating to car theft/vandalizm are done over the phone.

Uh yea, lecture... uhmmm... whatever...  ???

Brad , they take police reports over the phone , maybe not where you are but here that is just how they decide to it. Unless it is over $1000 , then they will send out a actual person.

;)  Like I typed before, I honestly don't know the procedure, but I have heard it several ? hundred ? times where several thousand dollars of stereo stuff was stolen out of a vehicle and the police didn't show up.

I just thought of something, if you can catch the thief while he's stealing from you and you can get the police on the phone while he's stealing from you, you have a much better chance of the police showing up.

I'll go back to ignoring each and every post you make Brad because it's clear to me you're not over your butt hurting yet from our last fallout many months ago.   ???  WTF   ???

Reason why  i say ALARM is, it makes noise, it has a blinking light ;D anything to distract them from you'r truck that you are paying good money for.

My Father in law has a alarm that will send a page to him before it sounds off, kind of a heads up someone's phucking with me >:(  You are probably living in a place where sound is an issue, especially(sp) at night. But thats just something to consider.

Good luck with it.

I have a factory alarm that has the blinky lights n such....but its only going to sound if a door is opened....and that doesn't include the gas door. I personally dont believe in aftermarket car alarm systems. They just make noise and no one even pays attention to them because 99% of the time its a false alarm. There is a SUV in my complex that is usually parked right in front of their apartment window which is in the next building over. It goes off all night long...I can hear it, but they just sleep through it.

Also, a locking gas cap doesn't stop the guy from moving onto the next car.

This morning, the gas levels were the same and the position of the cap was the same.

I believe that aftermarket car alarms do thier job when properly installed. I lived in a shady neighborhood many years ago and all of my neighbors had their vehicles broken into and mine never was broken into. The neighbors had "average" cars w/o alrams and mine was an immaculate '56 Bel Air with a big stereo system (all visible) and an alram with a blinking LED. My car never got touched in the 8 years that I lived there and it was definately the nicest car in the neighborhood and also one of the most stealable cars in the neighborhood.

When the alram goes off it is indeed only good if the owner of the vehicle can hear the alarm.

Shock sensors, proximity sensors, and additional hood/fuel door/tool box/etc. triggers can all be added to factory alrams. I personally wouldn't add to a factory alarm as it will always look factory and the thief will only figure out the alarm isn't factory until after he has broken into/vandalized the vehicle.

I know several professional theif's (all "retired"/too many strikes) and they all have told me that they would prefer to steal a car that does not have an alram verses a car that has an alarm. However, they also have said that an alarm wouldn't stop them if the "prize" in the end would be "worth it".

I have done several theft replacement jobs where the thief stole the aftermarket alarm.

I remember back in the day when I was just a youngin and I got my license   ::)
Around here there was many logging trucks etc. that always had full tanks and no security (gas caps or locks don't help), so...
Was not uncommon to hear of a friend hitting up a truck for gas. Very easy to sit underneath truck out of sight with your jerry can...  vise grips... and a hose.
Remove gas line from fuel selector switch and let it fill your gas can. Then put everything back and no one's the wiser.
Hopefully it was just a kid looking for a fix and gets a job soon so you don't get any more surprises.  :-\

Maybe leave a note next to the gas cap...
"Please leave me enough gas to get to work, if not enough gas in tank fill it up and I will pay you for your services.  signed, Owner"  ;D

Might be a good deal for you  >:D

Seriously, sucks to hear Brad...  hope it was a one time thing!

You wouldn't believe all of the people that get sold a "factory alarm" at the dealer when the buy their vehicle new and then they find out (the hard way) that what their vehicle actually has is a keyless entry system with a built-in car finder.

all that gas just sitting chances are the gas is bad but you can smell it and know for a fact, if it turns out that the gas is still good you can add sta-bil and it will give a longer shelf life...also the higher the octne the higher the shelf life...and the less amount of getting in there also adds a shelf life, but that's my 02 on that
