I found this full stringer Tahiti with chevy motor mounts a brand new Berk 12JC. Guy claims it has no stress cracks great stringers. New frames for the seats that have 2 coats of glass on them new steering. Bassett water inc. headers and says the gel is great and with a little buffing would be immaculate. Claims he has tons of hours and used the best of best parts with what he did so far. Somebuddy stole the place diverter in storage (oh well) and trailer is ok with all titles in hand. All for $600

What do you think?? I will add a 454 droop, diverter etc. and be cruzin in my full stringer Tahiti.
Someone chime in here and give me some of there knowledge.
Thanks Again

He banks at a little bank that is only at his area. Otherwise I would just go deposit the $$$ 1st thing in the morning. So tomorrow I am gonna to to the post office and get a postal money order and overnight it to him and them email pics of the MO to him. Man I am stoked. I might get a late start this year on the water but that is ok. I need time to get in shape for my Speedos anyways :o. He is sad to see it go and claims he has tons of hours and $$$ spent with reciepts for the pumpetc. Now someone sell me a hydraulic diverter etc.
Thanks for all your help and knowledge guys I really appreciate it. I will see you on the water pretty soon

After calming down... do you have the time, the knowledge, the freakin' cash, to finish it...
... if you take just a second too long to answer, think about it twice. ;)

Yeah I do. My budget was $5000 and that was just yanking the $$ right out of the bank. This way will let me get some better parts over time. I have built a few cars, drag raced a little and circle burned a little (dirt). The hard thing is gonna be the waiting. I am kind of a do it at once guy. I always am tinkering and building something. I think I will have a motor prof. built after I get all the parts together and maybe go visit Emanon to get the pump done the way I want. I wasthinking about getting a hull like this and building an all aluminum small block. I dunno so many choices,... Either way there will be some boobies bouncing in this boat by next year at the latest.

... and some kids/family! ;D

yeah the soon to be wife says if I get a boat she gets a boob job. She is awesome enough to bring some friends and encourage some topless suntanning etc I will provide pics. My boy is only 9 months so it will be a while before he has a full day on the boat. I am less that 2 miles from Lake Yosemite which is a tiny lake but perfect for a cruze and test and tune sessions.

... with my buzz, and yer thread, I'm feeling pretty good right now, good night.
-
well I bought the boat this morning. He just made me aware that he found a bunch more parts to go with it other than what he listed. I am gonna try and pick it up next week. Pics will be up soon.

congrats!

very cool!!

now I need some engine ideas. I really want alot of torque and a good hole shot. My engine builder says a 383 would be cool in a jet like mine and alot cheaper to build than a 454. My budget on a motor is around 5k. The idea I had was a 383 with forged crank,h-beams-and maybe a mellow domed pistin and a 64cc aluminum head. That way i would have a mellow compression and eventually strap a small blower on it after a summer or two. Give me some ideas or sell me some parts!!!! I remember the 460 in our old boat the "blue nun" would eat about 26 gallons in a few hours with the tunnell ram etc so I am gonna look at maybe an air gap intake etc.
-
yeah, I have to agree with you....
with the way gas prices currently are ....its really hard to drop a huge gas sucking motor into a boat.
I wanna enjoy my boat and not worry about breaking the bank cuz it burns up $75 in gas each time I take it out.
-
I am confused. No worries, it's easy to do. You had 3K to 4K for a boat, you bought a boat for ? $600 ?, it needs a $500+ place divertor/pump parts, it needs a $700+ interior, and now there's 5K for an engine?
Secondly, there's no replacement for displacement. It takes a lot of torque to move a jet boat, any big block will move the same jet boat with much less stress than any small block. A mild big block will have the same HP as a pumped up small block and the big block will be more reliable and use less gas than the extreme small block. My buddies Chevelle in high school got 6 mpg with his first 383 build and 4 mpg with his second 383 build. He wrecked that Chevelle and bought a SS396 Chevelle, that one got 10 mpg and was faster than both of those 383's.
Does your engine builder have jet boat experience? Think about it.
-
well now that I am not doing all this at once I will have some more $$$ to throw into the boat. I see what you are saying about the big block/small block issue so I dunno what I am gonna do. My engine builder has owned 7 jets with different combinations and agrees that the small block will work harder but will be cheaper and kinda different. I know either way its gonna be expensive to build and drive. It was just an idea that we came up with. I think I need to find a motor ready to bolt in instead of building one for now. I was pricing rotating assemblies, heads, carbs etc. and as we all agree it is all very expensive but the small block stuff came in about 30% less. HMMMM I think Im gonna drink a 6 pack and flip a coin. Heads BB tails SB

Small blocks are cheaper to build, they are different, a long time ago almost all of them had small blocks, now allmost all of them have big blocks - for sevral reason's. The biggest reason would be that there is no replacement for displacement. But it does sound like your mechanic would know "what's up" so carry on... ;D
-
I don't know what to do. So many choices. I hate to buy a used complete motor because it is really hard to tell what you are getting
The more I think about it a 454 would make me feel better it someone pulled up next to me and I wanted to show off a little. I have built 4 motors for different projects I have done and it is so spendy and then everytime I sold something it was at a pretty big loss of course. I guess i will comb the internet and classifieds day and night to find something worth buying or build an awesome motor and plan on keeping it forever.
Probably big block to keep Rod Happy

"... to keep Rod Happy."
Good luck with that my friend. ;D
