Made my first post today after lurking for a while and thought I'd say hi.
I grew up on the waters of Castaic and Havasu in my dad's 77 Spectra 20. Our group had everything from flattys to cabin cruisers and everything in between. My best memories as a kid are skipping across the lake in a dry pipe flat bottom, and cruising/skiing behind the mini day making runs to the dam.
Currently I have use of 21' open bow Chapparal i/o that we take to Parker, Newport, Catalina ect. The boat is great and a perfect family boat. However, I have a major itch to get my own jet and it will be nice to have two boats for our family river trips when all generations are there and we have 10 or so people. The kids are big enough that maxing the capacity on the Chap isnt very comfortable with a dog or two thrown in.
So onto my question: I'm thinking about making a long drive to look at a 19' Spectra in great shape. However, a 19' Kona rigged basically the same popped up much closer to me. I don't know anything about Kona boats and bit about Spectras. Given the same condition of the boats is there any reason to choose one over the other?

i have a kona ! there nice hulls maybe a little heavy but have never herd a bad word about them.

Guess I should add that I'm looking for a boat to just cruise, float, and casually tow tubes/skiis.
I'm not a speed junky anymore, sold the motorcycles, and my kids are 5 and 6, and always part of our boating.

I had a 18 spectra that was a good boat it handled a little rougher water. I like the looks of 19 spectras. They are a bigger boat than the kona and typically have full stringers. I would put my money into the spectra as long as its a Berkley pump

yah im 40 now and sold the quad, my oldest is 14 . boating is a lot easier on my body. My kona is a full stringer boat. by the way.

Well I'm still looking for a jet. I do have a space question.
How tight is the seating in a 18'/19' hull with the front captain seats and rear side benches?
90% of our trips will be me, the girl, and our two kids. However I'd like to add a couple other adults now and then.
Should I hold out for a mini day with back to back seating and jump seats?
Any issues doing some floating with the low freeboard at the transom of a low profile hull? The kids love jumping off the back and just floating on slow days in Parker or at the lake. I know to expect some water, but will it swamp in regular chop while off and floating?

It's a clean boat. Missing one rear cushion, so it's a cooler holder for now until I get one made. It was a little grouchy starting, but it's probably air in the lines. I'll get fresh gas in, change the filters and see if it makes a difference.
From what I can tell, Cory did a good job with the boat. I hope to make an Elsinore run this weekend to shake off the cobwebs and then go from there.
