I wasn't going to post this, but might give some perspective...

I have a freind that called me on Tuesday to tell me that one of his technicians got hurt over the weekend.

Normally you think broken leg, arm or just something that takes you out of commission for 6-8 weeks. Turns out, this one made me rethink the problems I have had over the last year and put things in a different perspective.

This guy is a service Journeyman for my freind and had taken some family leave time to be with his new wife while they had their first new baby boy, he was supposed to return to work next Monday after taking 6 weeks off, well as it turns out, he went dirt bike riding with some freinds this weekend and fell off, broke his back and severed his spine, he is now paralized from the waist down, he went to a spinal chord injury center yesterday and the prognosis was as bad as it can get, no way he will ever walk again.........

Sort of makes you think, I have gone boat racing while having a baby at home and had a couple of close calss, which is why I set aside my hobby that I have done for several years, not out of fear, quite the opposite, out of respect for my family, I think it was the best thing I could have done given this new perspective..

Thinking about you Steve, hope things get better soon....

Sorry for the downer, just thought some people on here could benefit from someones story..

wish i didnt read this....getting hurt bad during boat racing was one of my huge concerns when i started....i had been doing a lot better with it lately and have been getting in a better mind set to not worry so much about it and live life at its fullest. the above story was a setback.

Yeah, that's sort of what I was afraid of, IMHO fear is good, it's what keeps us making better decisions, we spun a boat out at about 85 MPH and went up the rock bank about 60 feet, and this was before the seat belt and roll bar deal, so I know right where you're coming from..

I guess a way you have to look at it, you can get hurt putting up Christmas decorations, it's all about putting yourself in situations that can really hurt you I guess, I dunno, I still want to get buckled in and run BTTW in a 100 MPH river boat, but I guarantee all safety gear available would be worn...

I think I have a problem, but have a lot of freinds with the same "issues".

I ,among everyone, can seriously relate.  This is a bummer, no doubt. The only diff is I found my wife dead on the couch (Dunno if I ever shared that much with you guys or not, if not, surprise.).

Your friend has a lot of soul searching ahead of him, and a lot of work. I will pray for him and hope that his life returns to something resembling normal.

I wish I could type something to make it easier, but I can't. It is what it is (My philosophy on everything these days). Anything I can do to help. I'm in.

Thanks Ray, and if I hadn't said it yet, very sorry for your loss, I'm not sure how I wold handle something like that.

I think it helps by talking about it, especially here on the boards, it too difficult to say it face to face, if that makes any sense..I have seen some really good people get hurt or come to pass that I don't think desrved it, then there are pieces of garbage that seem to live too long and have a pretty good live with a low value of life and lack of morals, but that's another thread alltogether...

Since "911" its seems to me like lots of folks lived like theres no tommorow and I belive I understand that ! Its always good to to have hope and think about your future , But its also vitally important to live in the "moment" and "savor" today You never know what hand you might get dealt ! Tom
