Jewelry Box / Wall Cabinet
« on: December 10, 2011, 09:33:01 pm »
fiancee wanted somewhere to put all her jewelry, shes got like 3 small drawers in our closet filled with stuff but because its all in separate boxes piled up, its pretty impossible to see all of it.
soo for xmas im building her a jewelry box/wall cabinet that will eventually be installed into the wall between studs.  It'll have a locking mirror front, 3 sets of 2 row panels for rings, 3 panels for earrings (about 80 pairs of earrings), hooks for necklaces on the back of the door, and then the 6 boxes in the bottom. all red oak.  keep in mind im pretty novice when it comes to woodworking.

so far have the frame and started on the boxes.  tomorrow ill do the earring panels and get some felt and foam for the ring cushions.  looking for some suggestions for stain, i want it to be a dark black with a slight red tint to match our bedroom furniture.

started showing it to people and got quite a lot of interest from the ladies... who knows maybe ill make a few more...

The wood part is usually pretty easy...with some basic tools, and a little know how can take you pretty far...the staining part is where I blow it! Looks really good!

Nice job.
We just stained some cabs with Minwax Ebony stain, it's about as black as you're going to get without a dye stain. If you're going to spray with a cup gun, they make tinting colors you can mix in the lacquer for the red tone. Other wise try the black stain first, then go over it with a red mahogany or cherry stain.

got the drawers all glued together

then started on the 3 sets of shelves for rings.  took 1" high density foam, glued it to the wood piece, sliced in 2 rows, then took some black velvet cloth tucked into the slices and wrapped it around and glued it all together with some 3m 90 adhesive.

also started on the earring pieces but drilling 80 something holes and 80 slices to the holes is VERY time consuming... more pix later.

Looks really nice.  But on a serious note if you pawned some of that bling you could get some bitchin boat parts.
