460 BBF Dipstick
« on: July 06, 2009, 12:23:30 PM »
I need a little help guys...The dipstick on my boat is really loose and oil tends to seep out a little around it so I want to get a new one.

I am heading out to the river the weekend and would like to take a new one with me, but the boat is already there so I can't exactly take the one over to the parts store and pick up a new one.  :banghead:

That being said, I am hoping somebody can help me out.

My dipstick goes into the block on the waterpump housing spacer on the front of the motor. It is not the kind that goes down into the oil pan itself. Could somebody get me a length on theirs if they have the same one? Or if somebody could even find me a part number that would be great.

I was going to just go to a Ford dealer, but they usually get all messed up when you tell them you need it for a marine application.

Thanks!

if you have oil blowing out of your dipstick tube....you got more problems then just a new dipstick.

Brad he said seeping out a little, which I know mine did, because the tube sort of presses into the aluminum timing cover housing, and ya have the oil splashing up from the timing chain caused a little leak, not much tho. My tube pulled out by fingers, not even pliers. Nick the one I got from Summit was a Milodon part # MIL-22035, it cost 52.95  but that was on 02/01/05, so may be cheaper. I got tired of trying to find one elsewhere, cause when you have to say its for a boat motor, they all turn STUPID :banghead: :banghead:  You can tell them the size, year, block #, and they is still STUPID :screwy:

I would agree with you if there was more than what's coming out.

At the end of a full weekend of running I have a puddle smaller than the size of a dime. I plan on going through the whole motor this winter, for now I am just trying to fix the leak.

Cool Nick, too bad they havent changed prices :banghead: I know wwhen I put mine in it still wasn't as tight a fit as I would have liked. I used sillycone when I pushed mine in, and it has not leaked whatsoever. Just a heads up tho, you still have your original stick, so you can match them up and you will have to use a (I used a small chisel) to mark where the oil full level is. The new ones are not marked. Just my .02 bud    Mark

I get the same small leak.  Mine comes from the top of the dipstick hole though.  I solved it with a rubber washer just the right size O0

Chaz, that sounds a little like blowby, I could be wrong tho. And the new dipstick and tube I got had an O ring on it also. So no problem for me also.    Mark

I dunno, The Moo does it a little too, and I know there's no blowby, also think I'm getting some water in through it a little too. There's probably quite a bit of oil getting tossed up that way from the crank slinger at 5000 RPM!(Gonna try the o-ring thing on my dipstick and see if that helps!)

The southwind does the same thing! I think a puke tank will take care of it for me? It only does at high RPM 5500 to 6200
