Title: July 6th , 7th and 8th at Martinez.
Post by: Marcsrollin on July 05, 2007, 01:17:22 PM
Between me and my friends we have 5 of the 8 bungalows rented out at Martinez so if any one is going to be around feel free to stop by and say what's up , Even some of you lurkers!

If you don't know where the bungalows are , they are in the bar parking lot , I will be in number 8 , You'll see us all out there getting drunk on the porches.

So if anyone wants a ride in a real jet boat just stop on by  number 5 (and I'll see if my friend Thomas is around  :D ).

I've never been to Martinez... what's the scoop on the it?  Good water?  Mellow?  Camping or bungalows?  Any problem with a larger jet such as mine?  Martinez looks like a nice close alternative to Havasu -about 3 hours from San Diego?

Thanks

Friday it was 122 degree's, saturday was 118, sunday was about 110. My 50 pictures turned into about 20, because the rest of them are on the other (non-digital) camera.  :-\  Mechanical problems were few and far between. Drama was also few and far between.

The ride up to Walter's camp was incredible. At certain times during the ride the water couldn't have been more than a foot deep - "pin it" seemed to work quite well. My Miller (High Life) ran awesome and I've figured out why any outboard powered boat will never "replace" a jet drive powered boat completely, I must have carved a thousand "S's" in the water this weekend. BTW, I was playing with the boat on some high speed u-turns and with any kind of precision are a bitch, "cudo's" to Omar, Ralph, and anyone else who races a jet in circles.  ;)

Probably one of the funniest things that I saw was Marc dropped his drink in the bar, it landed upside down on the floor - STILL FULL! He wanted a knife and a straw!  ;D

Yeah, about 3 hours. Not too many big (26' +) boats there, makes it MUCH less choppy than Parker or Havafew. BKPlesh has obviously been there and all of the info he gave you is correct. Jet drives preffered choice of drive there at Martinez, lots of wide long shallow sand bar area's especially up river. Martinez's ramp holds two trucks/boats MAX, gas was $3.40 a gallon at the dock (Martinez is in AZ), $4.40 a gallon up river at Walter's Camp at the dock(CA side of river). 4 X 4 area's everywhere, dir bikes, quads, you can pretty much do anything there except shooting  ;D but you're going to want to be there for the water mostly. I once rode my dirt bike for 3 hours in one general direction (I left from Senator's Wash heading north) and never ran out of trail or fun.

Im taken the warlock there in 2 weeks  can't wait. The river run at Havasu was the best part of my last trip. That foot of water thing has me kinda tripping a bit :o

I love that place. There's a lot of prop boats out there, although I didn't see any once I got pretty far up the river but that doesn't mean it can't be done. You'll be able to see where the sandbars are at.  ;)

Yeah up very near Walter's there were just a couple sandbars that were trippin' me out - real shallow water that "appeared" to go all of the way across the river to the other side. Since I was in a jet and had "a few" and I have a heavy foot, I just didn't care. Zero problems was the result.

Thanks for all the info... I'll have to plan a weekend out there this summer.  But holy freakin' shiot batman - 120 degrees!  Maybe a bit later in the summer when it cools off some.  It would be great to meet up with some of the folks on the board - someone to show the spots there.  An inside connection always makes a much nicer trip (and safer.)

Hopefully by the end of September I'll have my Rogers on the water and at the river.  :)
