Title: Lite switch wiring help....
Post by: skee on May 07, 2010, 06:55:11 PM
I'm replacing the 2 stage light switch on my Spectra and feelin a lil dumb right now ( not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to wiring  :banghead:) any way...the 3 terminals on the back of the switch are marked "a/b" on one which i'm figuring is all the lites and the other 2 are marked as one of them is "H" which I'm figuring is hot,but the last one is marked "R" instead of "G" for ground,is that the ground? and if so,why did they mark it "R"??  HeLp.... :sly:   ;D

The switch doesn't need to be grounded, unless lighted, Tracy. The lights have to be grounded to work, so the gounds are already connected to the lights. This is DC, all you are switching is the power feed line.

So you're three terminals should be, Power feed, I would assume to be the "R" terminal, "H" for half lighting, and "A/B" for all lighting.

Just an educated guess......... ;)

The original switch has 5 wires going to one terminal,2 red wires going to another and one black going to the other but I cant read what they are marked as the switch is too old....the swicth is not lighted...

sounds like the 5 wires go to the interior lights, maybe the 2 red wires controlling your green / red bow light and rear light if you have those  ??? ???

and your black being your incoming 'hot'.

But idk if you have the bow light or not...

so I would think 'H' is half lighting and 'A/B' is all lighting and 'R' is for RRRRRRRRRelay aka 'hot'?...i dont know. haha.

directions never hurt and trial and error is always fun with a couple brewskis.

LOL! The 5 wires going to one terminal would indicate i was probably right. That would be all the lights, The middle two are power feed (1 coming in, the other off to feed something else), the black wire for the running lights probably

I say Probably, I would test that black wire and see if it's live when you switch on the ignition. If it is, That's your feed and all the other wires are simply the lights. Hookem up in whatever order you want on the last two terminals. But I would stay with the way it's supposed to be.........
