yeah, because of what i do (internal cost IT work) we are first in line to get laid off....and IT people are dime a dozen in orange county....you can throw a rock and probably hit one.....and a good percentage of them are looking for work so the salary's are real low out here....with the cost of living....forget it....i cant afford to live here anymore. ive been looking around a lot in the past year....i had my eyes set on havasu for a long time....i thought i could go out there and swing the sticker biz.....but then reality set in....vegas looked to be the best....close to the river....mead is right there....jobs are paying a little less there, but the cost of living is a fraction of whats out here.

I can live in a mansion for what i pay for my 3 bedroom apartment....and im not exaggerating one bit. it just makes sense.

...and for skip....i cant be more happier for him....he got the shit covered short end of the stick from the state....and now lets say hes going to be livin comfortably. congrats on the new job man.

I am seriously considering buying a houseboat (think 15X65) and living aboard it @ Lake Mead, is that possible?

I have an interview thursday mornin at the Wynn.....they are staffing the datacenter in the new tower. might start as soon as monday.

I have always wanted to work behind the scenes at a casino....this should be a fun position.

Good luck to you but I dont think it would be possible to start as early as Monday.

Working for a gaming company in Las Vegas requires a Sheriffs Gaming Card, not hard to get as long as your not a retard but you would have to be offered the job, go down and wait in line for "HOURS" filll out the paperwork, wait for "HOURS", get interviewed and maybe an hour later walk out with your card.

I guarantee that the Wynn will also do a drug test and physical which although not a big deal will take time to do.

Possibly Tuesday/Wednesday to start.

....but after reading what oc2vegas went through (paying rent on a foreclosed house) ...ive got my guard up.

Let me know any addresses of any place you look at, the wife got real good at checking into public records of  owners and finding the scammers.

But remember you all followed me out here from the OC!

If B-rad is working the computers and not dealing with money , i dont see why a sheriffs card is needed. Unless they changed ???

I do believe he needs the physical though :o

Every slot machine in the building, auto shuffler, etc deals with gaming/money and they are all connected to the Servers/Network.  Unless the Wynn is doing something new.....

yes, i am aware of the screening process for casinos. I was advised by my recruiter about this plus i had and idea of how it would pan out. Originally she said it was a direct hire perm position but said they are now going to do a temp to hire process to get us in there then start the long drawn out process with the wynn's HR to get us hired. they are desperate to hire people 'yesterday'.

This isnt my first rodeo...I currently work for an FDA regulated company. from the day they gave me the offer, it was 3 weeks before i could start (background, paperwork, approvals, etc)....then it was another 3 weeks before i could get my own account to log in.....i spent my first 3 weeks with my nose buried in FDA documents, guidelines, etc.

im not anxious to start as soon as monday....thats a huge change in a short notice. i would like to have some time to get things tied up here before i go live out of a suitcase and surf chromeys couch  ;D for who knows how long.

the answer across the board is NO. no reason to. we are all still from the same general area and boat in the same general area.

even if i was moving to michigan, i wouldnt change the name.  ::)

Right, to live there ya gotta work there other wiese it would be full, kids runnin around and shit. Even if you own a trailer there. So, you get a little part time job. I talked to a maintenence guy there yesterday who rents a trailer from them, $250 a Mo. I can rent any boat there for $15 a day, discount at the store and grill.
